Would you use a blog if we had them at JSR? I know a few of you might use them for Pilot logs and such. Just wondering if it would be used much. vBulletin does have a blog add-on now. It wouldn't be something I could add too soon since it would cost me about $80 to do so, but something to think about for the future.

Well, I don't mean those kind of blogs. Here it would be more of a pilot log or something. Some people do like the character development aspect of Jumpgate.

Hmm... I thought I remembered you implementing something to this effect about a year and a half ago. GrimGriz made like 3 posts in his, and then he stopped and no one else did anything? Maybe I'm thinking of something else though.

I like blogs. I just post on mine very irregularly (I, however, do not steal info and post it as my own, or pretend to be a legitimate media outlet).

Well, the nature of most blogs is to either tell people what you had for breakfast or to comment on other blogs and then possibly you will be commented on etc etc, the blogosphere.

However, they can be useful for game characters. I doubt I would ever add them especially with the expense. I was just curious.

I'd agree that the expense isn't worth it, unless the site really starts paying for itself in some way.

I used to read Karash's blog which was filled with very nice OEC RP (Eve) and I've always liked his writing, puts a lot of atmosphere to squad adventures and such, its probably one of the best stuff he had to kept us close to him. His stories would keep us more inmerse into Jumpgate and such, so if it can be done, and we get enough folks who will use it to that pilot log effect, Id roll with it.

I tend to do many mission summaries in every squad I've been to (or led). I would keep those simple, like have a squad logo/pic and then read and read. There are many around here that may be good writers. Other things that could be used for, is to make squad announcements and war declarations and such.

Now, I havent used blogs myself, but I'd suppose you can post your blog and if others want to comment... they would come here right? I would hate making my blog to see others fight or call names to themselves or even me on my own blog.

The blogger has moderator status of their own blog. I doubt I would do this because it's not free. I was just looking at the new vBulletin blog add-on as I am contracted to install it and modify it on another site. It's ugly as heck but it functions well. It has a way to go as far as personalizations go but the code is pretty solid.

From what I can see atm JSR looks like it will be the community site for Jumpgate Evolution. At that stage there should be hundreds of users. So an IC blog would be good and possibly justified at that time.

I would say unless advertising can pay for the software, dont do it.

That said, as a club/site operator I'd rather spend the advertising money on the "club" instead of on software. Like here you do the contests, I actually do T-Shirt and Car Decal give-a-ways.
