Re: BlueRay or HD-DVD?
A lot of people got stuck with beta max players and tapes too. There is nothing new under the sun. We just have the same events with different players over and over again.

I currently have a XP PC set up to my TV using S-Video and I watch downloaded TV shows and movies on my 36 inch TV all the time. |

Re: BlueRay or HD-DVD?
Once they're reasonable priced either a drive for my PC that plays both or if cheap enough one drive each (no TV here). Though probably until then either one of the two won and has all the movies avaiable or a third pops up replacing both. Though first a display supporting HDCP is needed and for now I'm not willing to spend more than 150 Euro for one.

Re: BlueRay or HD-DVD?
Yep betamax was the superior format, however Philips V2000 format blew them both out of the water.
And one lesser known historical fact, Sony actually invented Betamax (B-type) and VHS (S-Type). JVS simply bought the technology off them. Sony dont always back a winner. Personally I'm for HD-DVD simply because Sony is all for blueray. Sony seem too keen to impose there own proprietary standards on everything. Smeg |

Re: BlueRay or HD-DVD?
@Net: I honestly dont know the model, but a friend of mine who's helping me build my system (but not going out to break the bank) told me that Toshiba had a new model that was able to play both formats and that it was being sold for around $140.00.
As I said, Im heading the projector way, using the computer as the main digital audio/video provider (at any resolution it may be) but the projector we're aiming for is a Sanyo which should be available via e-bay for $400 (if we're lucky). Next thing I'll be doing is build a new Amd x2 system and probably will use a HTPC case which I saw the other day, you wouldnt think its a computer at all, and surprisingly is not expensive. The case I currently have costed me $90.00 and this new one should be at $130.00. Of course, the HTPC will be something I had no plans for, but it became evident recently that my current system couldnt play 1080p short movies (1m40s), it looks awesome but is not video, looks more like a powerpoint presentation on steroids. Hence why I need to build a new system. I currently have a cheapo ATI tv card too, which I may change for a PVR150 from Hauppage, more professional solution. Anyways, this will happen with time. Ah, the HTPC case... is a Silverstone LC17, and since my stereo is black-ish, I'll go with the (drumroll and doh together) black version ![]() ![]() Well, with time.. we'll see. ELP |

Re: BlueRay or HD-DVD?
Yes, Silverstone makes some nice cases. And I guess I should take a look for that Toshiba drive.
