BlueRay or HD-DVD?
Which do you currently have? If you don't have either, which will you go with?
I currently don't have a high def TV, just a standard def 36 inch CRT, but I'm curious who thinks one or the other is better. From what I can tell, neither one is winning, and its possible neither ever will because of all this competition. |

Re: BlueRay or HD-DVD?
I have a high def television, nothing spectacular, just a little 32" widescreen. Its best resolution is 1080i or 720p depending on how you look at it. I have the xbox 360 and its High definition DVD player add on drive, I use it as my dvd player and its essentially the centerpiece of my entertainment center being that I also use its media center extender capabilities.
The native resolution of a standard definition DVD played on the xbox 360 is upgraded to the base HD res of 480i. In an attempt to see if I could tell the difference between the two, I bought both the standard and HDDVD version of Serenity. Its a little bit like trying to determine the difference between 120 and 130fps in a video game. You just can't. The same goes with the Blue-Ray players. Now there IS a difference between watching it on a standard dvd player that doesn't upconvert the signal. But the difference between dvd 480i and 1080i is very hard for me to detect. As a result, the only HDDVD's I have bought have been when the HD discs have been the same price as the standard definition discs. Its not worth the cost difference to me. |

Re: BlueRay or HD-DVD?
Might be a different result on a large screen.
DVD's seem fine to me and they are cheaper than that new stuff. |

Re: BlueRay or HD-DVD?
i bet if you get a 1080p TV set and then sat down to a BD, watched about 15 minutes of it, load up the same video on standard DVD, you'll see a VERY noticeable difference. it's like going from 20fps to 60fps. or rather, going from standard 480i/p to 720p. going up to 1080p is the next noticeable step (and one step away from the definition i REALLY want... 1200p).

Re: BlueRay or HD-DVD?
Well, the poll shoulda have an option for both
though I dont have them. I heard there is this new Toshiba player that accepts both blu-ray and hd-dvd's, all in the same package and at a low price (below $200).As Im heading the projector way... and I know mine will be hi def, just not sure which of both, most probably 720, but as of now all my movies and such play from the PC so Im not expecting miracles ![]() ELP |

Re: BlueRay or HD-DVD?
I really dislike the HD disc war. The media likes to dramatize it, but the losers are the consumers. Once dual format players are common and affordable it won't be so bad. It's the same deal with the console wars. The consumers are the ones that end up with the short end of the stick.
