You're right, I skipped where you said "mobile safari". I wasn't referring to mobile safari in my comment. Additionally I was under the impression that safari was a browser and not an OS. I also was not aware that everything on the Iphone ran THROUGH safari, and thus was subject to it's restrictions on accessing the file system. So I suppose I'll have to give that one to you, I don't know the inner workings of the Iphone well enough to know that the OS is based off of the browser. I assumed that when you install a non-offical app an Iphone that's been jail-broken it didn't involve the web browser.

2nd, the fact that you can't trouble shoot a mac just shows how naive you are, and it actually makes me happy that you refer those people to Apple since they can and will fix people's computers properly. Troubleshooting and fixing a Mac is sooooo much easier, you just have to know how unix works.
It's not an inability to fix an Apple PC, it's an unwillingness to do so. I'm tired of fixing everyone's computers after work, so I'll be glad if Apple gets a market share. I highly doubt your average car mechanic goes home at the end of the day and wants to fix everyone's cars. I'm sure "I don't have metric tools" is a good way for them to get out of it. Same shit, different stink.

Re: Despite my distaste for jumping on the lasted trendy thing...

No no, the iphone OS is based off of a stripped down version of OSX, which is a BSD Unix system. Safari is just the browser, which again is a stripped version of the original. However, no application (except hacked apps) can access the system unless the SDK allows it, and safari itself does not tie into the SDK. All the system level stuff is on lockdown and requires you to hack the phone to even be able to access it all. Now granted, someone could make a virus type app, submit it to cydia and it could slip through, but at that point you have to activly download and install said app before it can do anything....

And fair enough, I work on systems 12 hours a day so I know how you feel, hell most of the time I wont even work on my own computer if its broke.....

edit: yes I am a huge iPhone nerd and have been following all this waaaaaaay too closely. Guess thats what happens when you surf the net like 24/7

Leave it to netburnr to turn a nice conversation into a pissing contest. I'll just save it for when the first one hits. Especially since they are going to be adding JAVA and javascript capabilities.

Funny shit.

Man that brings tears to my eyes. Kids today.
