There is a great and long debate going on amongst the Ents in the forest. Or rather, the JSR staff as we like to discuss things slowly and forever. So sue us for having lives eh? Anyway, the debate is on whether to add a sandbox type forum at JSR.

Now before you get your panties in a wad, you know I don't like this sort of thing. Nevertheless, this is a community and we try to serve as many aspects of it as we can. The debate that rages every so slowly in the staff lounge is divided pretty evenly. While we debate this issue I figured I would see how you folks feel. Either way, it will still be a staff decision. But community input is always good.

Keep in mind some things before you vote and don't vote for reasons outside these things. No matter what we do, if we do it, the forum will follow these basic guidelines and thats about it.

It will be a private forum not visible to the public.
You will need to request to join a specific user group to access it.
You may not get accepted if you have a history of getting upset at people for what they say.
You may not be accepted if you have a history of being stiff and lacking a sense of humor.
You must be able to laugh at yourself and your own silliness that others see.
You may not get accepted if you are unknown.
No one affiliated with the gaming industry will be added. (Aubrey Rule)
If you spill anything over into the public forum you will moderated, removed from the group, and possibly banned.
You must be active in the rest of the forum to be accepted or allowed to stay in the group.
If you quote anything from within the forum anywhere else or to anyone else that can possibly hurt someone in anyway, you will be banned.
No RL threats of any kind or any illegal activity of any kind.
You must like PIE and Ham Sandwiches.

That's about it. Mostly stuff to keep a private forum private. The forum will most likely be loosely (threats and such) moderated by Injustice. He is on vacation right now so I volunteered him while he was away and couldn't defend himself.

So cast your vote and comment if you wish. Forum names are also being taken into consideration so offer up your ideas.

JSR will still be a place where people can post their thoughts without the expectation of being insulted. However, some of our members want to be goofy goobers sometimes and we are trying to find a way to accommodated them so they will not be alienated from the community. They can have their fun and still engage in the topical discussions of the forum at large.

well sandbox can mean many things.. like where my cat craps.. but never heard of sandbox forum.

No, the only rules are RL threats and publicizing what goes on in there.

No, spam is deleted and spammers are banned. No need to give spammers their own forum. Unless you like clicking malware infested links.

Well, people will have to request to join, may not be accepted by the staff, may be removed by the staff, can't spill the beans, and have to be active in the other forums, as well as the no RL threats. Not that I'm saying that's a bad thing! Having no controls is just asking for trouble and doing such things protects yourself and your users. If you're going to have one, of course you have to have the controls you have stipulated. I may or may not join the user group, but I have no objection to there being one. I'm not going to vote on it, since I have no strong opinion either way.

Most game forums just have an "OOC" forum where people talk about things outside games/gaming. If people don't want to see non-related/"goofy" content, they can just not go into that forum (which is what I usually choose to do).

I don't see why something like that needs a vote.

Well, you should vote on it based on how you feel it will affect the atmosphere of the community overall. Basically, you will never see the forum if you do not wish to. So as long as what happens in there stays in there it should have no effect. Theoretically anyway.
