Re: Does Google search blogs?
Yeah, most blogs go unread. I read very few myself and none on a regular basis. It's kind of like the entire world stepped outside and sat on their own porch and started babbling to whomever passed by.

Re: Does Google search blogs?
Blogging is productive. If nothing else it's writing practice, whereas trolling is arguing practice.
Whether or not a blog develops a readership probably only matters in so far as whether or not someone starts paying you to to do it. For example, apparently this url=http://zenhabits.net/2007/04/zen-to-done-ztd-the-ultimate-simple-productivity-system/]Zenhabits guy[/url] is getting paid to do it. I found it through a widget thing on my my.yahoo page. For me, I'm planning on doing it to try and get rid of some of the stuff that's rattling around in my head. I'm hoping spewing it on the web will let other things in my head rattle louder. Thanks for sharing though, your opinion is always highly valued by me. |

Blogging isn't about being unique or original as that's really aiming too high, it's about having an author with quality content that there's an interest in/audience for. It's based on the same principles as a columnist in a newspaper or magazine. Those columnists aren't completely original on their ideas on a daily basis. They've just got a written voice/loyal readership that enjoys their opinions/etc. I'd guess you'd get an audience based on your friends/recognition in the Jumpgate community and any other communities so unlike the majority of bloggers, you've already started with a base audience which is good. Blogging can be completely productive, just depends on what your success goals are for it. If you just want an outlet for your thoughts, then thats an incredibly easy goal to shoot for and something that will be very productive for you. The internet as a whole is a very young industry and no one has it figured out yet as far as the "how do we make a profit with this thing". So, don't worry too much about that. If you have content that people enjoy reading and find valuable, you'll find your blog becomes very productive as long as you're willing to invest in it. Whether that productivity comes from money or recognition in that industry, well, that's a whole new topic right there but really, it's all about what you want from it in the first place. And, if having trolls/bots post on your entries is something important to you, all Blogs allow commenting. I'd recommend letting comments with moderation in place at the minimum or there's no connection between your audience and you. Never get caught up in if someone has thought of your ideas before either. Rules of philosophy usually state that an idea itself can never be completely original, there's always someone else that has thought of it before you did. What is key is the implementation of that idea. Henry Ford wasn't the first person to think of the automobile but history attribute shim that invention. Implement your blog well and have realistic idea of what you want from it and you'll do fine ![]() |

Re: Does Google search blogs?
That's really my point. Trying to be original or the inventor of something new is rarely a sure route to success. Arguably, execution of an idea is always more important. It usually matters more if you do something well rather than if you did something first unless.
I was stating that history attributes him the invention. Ask someone who invented the automobile and I'd wager 9 out of 10 would say Henry Ford. While several others may have thought of/invented the first automobile before him (Daimler, Selden, etc), Henry Ford is still attributed by the vast majority as it's inventor because of his successful implementation/execution of it. Same with something like the discovery of the America's and Christopher Columbus or the Wright Brothers and the airplane. |
