Re: Facebook tracking your every move?
At least with those you can clearly click no and be done with it.

Re: Facebook tracking your every move?
I hate facebook. It is really the most crap thing since a long time. Here where I live everyone seems to be using it, even at work there are some clowns that think instead of sending you an email they can send you a message via facebook (this results in me getting an email that someone invited me to facebook and that I should register there, I didn't care enough to actually try to see the message without registering, so I won't say they want to force you to do so, but I guess thats it).
I don't like hypes, and I certainly don't like exposing my life on a website that is not controlled by me or someone I trust. I remember wanting to read an article about Jumpgate Evolution on mmorpg that finally I didn't, due to the simple fact that the link to faq of their cookie policy did require cookies. I understand websites using advertising to create income, and this is a legitimate way to fund your website as long as it does respect your privacy. Using a profile/blog website to extract user data to advertise is way too much exploitable. |

Re: Facebook tracking your every move?
The one thing I do like about facebook versus myspace is that facebook does not allow all the custom code and music, and crap like that. Thats what I've always hated about myspace, half the people don't know how to make a proper profile, and the other half have shitty music playing as soon as you look at their page.

Re: Facebook tracking your every move?
Do you have a link for that? I know Google and Myspace were working together on OpenSocial and that they had a deal for Google to power their search but I don't remember them buying them. But then I don't pay too much attention to such things and easily forget.
Didn't Microsoft invest in Farcebook? |

Re: Facebook tracking your every move?
i dont use facebook bcus it requires u to put n some rl info, location, & other stuff related to rl.
once u expose yer rl self on the internet, it stays on there forever and circulates, and one day u might be a target of a group of hackers that pick on people for no reason and treat it like an rl video game. alternativly, i would take a look into claimID weblog - Manage your online identity.. it doesn't have much social interaction features for now xcept for the contact list. it may have more on the way soon. i thought this might be the site where Jumpgate players can keep in touch with other ex-Jumpgate players but there may be better ones out there. as long as it doesnt require u to put rl info and without the excessive 3rd party apps on the site, i'll check it out. |

Re: Facebook tracking your every move?
Privacy is a mirage.
In the ideal zero privacy world, marketers will offer you the exact product you want exactly when you want it, and no one will bother offering you things you don't want -- since they will KNOW you're a nonbuyer. The Jumpgate Evolution Facebook thing seems like a nice stop-gap to me, though I think myspace might have been better. |

Re: Facebook tracking your every move?
I like facebook, cause I can keep in touch with all those who I would forgotten about.. and its nice to see what they up to.. I really dont see the problem, advertising does not mean you have to buy.. I would rather ignore adds then pay montly fee for such service.
Microsoft bought some shares, and got advertising rights.. Think they invested 240 million dollars, in return they got 1.6% of the facebook shares. |

Re: Facebook tracking your every move?
I wouldn't mind looking at their site.. if i didn't have to signup first. I hate sites i have to signup just to see if i actually want to look at the site. Let me read what you have to say.. and if i want to speak then make me signup.
But.. thats just me. |
