I agree with you, Eraser. Tracking consumer habits is as old as sales, and sales is the third oldest profession.

But here's the thing. What happens when the IRS decides they'd be pretty interested in what you are purchasing. After all, if they get access to this data, they can just mail you a bill every month for all those purchases you made online and didn't pay tax for.

Your medical insurance can now begin screening to make sure that you aren't buying that FryerDaddyDeluxe(tm), and if you do buy it, they can drop you for failing to listen to your doctor about the low-fat diet.

Your next house loan can be declined because you aren't saving enough money, which they know because they can find your spending habits now.

Hell, your wife can bust you on that affair you've been having because she knows that you are buying way more flowers than she is getting.

See, it's not about the numbers. Its about who gets the numbers. it used to be that nobody got the numbers. A decade years ago, only the consumer, the retailer, and the credit card companies got the numbers. A few years ago, all those _plus_ the major credit reporting institutions got the numbers.

And now today, any retailer who pays can get your numbers. Who will get them tomorrow?

That's the big issue.

Apparently your friends, which is what this thread is about. If I want people to know what I have bought I will tell them. If I don't want them to know I won't.

Fortunetly, As long as I live here I will always have medical care no matter what.

I dont get the IRS point.. It doesnt work that way here..Unless you are spending more then you are earning, witch is impossible if you are law abiding citizen.

People who cant pay their loans should not be able to get them. All banks here require to see income/spending balance of anyone trying to get a loan. And lets not talk about the economic crysis that hit the USA because loans were given to people who cant pay them.

But I get the the paranoia you guys have.. I mean what if the goverment could tap my phones without any specific reason..

Facebooks is valued to 15billion dollars, because it has content. That content is users like me. Just as Youtube, they need people uploading videos and watching them. As soon as they start fucking up, and something better comes along, they will lose their users, and their value will drop to zero.

Seeking to keep the peace in its popular online hangout, Facebook Inc. has overhauled a new advertising system that sparked privacy complaints by turning its users into marketing tools for other companies.
Under the changes outlined late Thursday, Facebook's 55 million users will be given greater control over whether they want to participate in a three-week-old program that circulates potentially sensitive information about their online purchases and other activities.
Facebook provided two different opportunities to block the details from being shared, but many users said they never saw the "opt-out" notices before they disappeared from the screen.
