I don't know if this was a flippant question or not. Anyway, it's something I've been thinking about. I'll quote myself from an earlier thread.

Toward the end of my playing days, a lot of squads contained people who were mates, but who chose ship not on the faction of the squad, but on whatever ship they wanted. Yeah, i'm thinking of Solicidal and QGFoKH... this meant fleets containing tensies and dragons and monsoons. I didn't have much of a problem with it, but in theory it should create balance issues. Fleets like these had disadvantages, like being forced to home at EE or LL, etc.

I remember a lot of people wanting not to be part of TRI. Mainly it was for RP, but there were practical reasons. Anyone care to explain?

I was honestly surprised by the reaction to Istvan's attempts to reintroduce factionalism with recent *cough* patches. I was hoping it would work out to be a decent source of income for people who wanted to earn money while PvPing, and hopefully to create some new activities that would be more than just pew, pew, laserbeams. At best, people's response was 'Meh!' At worst, there were complaints. I realise that it's *still* is a work in progress - I have no positive response to that. But I'm still seeing a lack of enthusiasm for the idea in principle.

Is anyone a factionalist any more? If you don't fight/profit for your faction, what do you do it for? Why do so many people want to play pro-flux, non-TRI, or pirate, etc RPs? How could you see those being implemented (by the GMs) into the game without ruining the current RP, or the code, or without watering down the main factions? What game-tools would support these RPs?

Well, is just a matter of RP of course. In today's ISU... we're not exactly pirates. We use the tag to express our discontent with TRI and as such we're not pirates, just anti-TRI folks but not necesarily bad people with big guns.

It would be cool if there were such things as a rebel faction, anti-tri basically... and this would probably contain both pirates and those of us that are anti-TRI but not aggresive in nature.

Anyways, this is the community chat section and anything I say here... it would be out of topic, but yeah, I'd like a faction for that and it would be awesome if you could also root for aman, hyp and even the conflux... like if you are pro-conflux you dont get shot/attacked by low level conflux or such, but the bigger ones may have a conflict with the idea of a friendly human... and might shoot you just for the hell of it.

@Jump: how about changing pirate to "Anti-TRI"?

Well, nothing is really off topic in community chat. No one ever responds in the site business section so I have to post it here. I don't want to get too complicated here, I can't have 4000 tags for 4000 role plays. So we need to settle on something. In the future it will be used for some cool things so I have to limit or get help. Help never comes so I have to limit it. Maybe non-aligned?

I may have to change it to two different profile fields. On being the three that are available and the other being faction role played. Some of the things I want to do can only work with actual factions while others are more for fun so I can do as I wish.

Well "netburnrol" is oct, but my other "-=gotcha=-" was sol and was quant as of the time I quit.
