Re: Glad I didn't install XP SP3
I remember when everyone was crying about XP and clinging to 2k. People get comfortable and don't like change. Most issues have been third party releasing crapy drivers or not getting them signed or both. Everyone wants to make the big bucks but they don't always keep up with the requirements.

Re: Glad I didn't install XP SP3
[2cents]
While I agree that Vista is miles better than XP, it doesn't seem worth the upgrade effort considering Windows 7 is scheduled for a 2009/2010 release [/2cents] |

Re: Glad I didn't install XP SP3
Well, About SP3. I didn't know it was recalled. But I installed it and my computer restarted after then update, only this time it couldn't load Windows. When it tried, a screen showing "Safe Mode, Last Config, Start Windows Normally" appeared.
If I didn't choose Safe Mode, then it would just restart and do the same thing again. I had to do System Restore through Safe Mode. I tried it one more time after I ran diagnostics to make sure there wasn't a problem on my end. Same thing happened, never touched it again. I did contact MS about it and they replied with an auto-response stating my problem was submitted. But it's like they didn't even read my message. Three days later I got an email for a Customer Satisfaction Survey, like they actually did something. It asked if my problem was solved (no) and then asked if I wanted to be contacted again (yes). That was three days ago, which I admit was the weekend. But they need to work on customer service. |

Re: Glad I didn't install XP SP3
you were right jump, I dumped the nforce drivers and vista is faster now for nework transfer than xp by like 28% on my machien, impressive to say the least.
Unfortunaly 3dmax 9/ 2009 runs at half speed with large models. I was really hoping that 2009 with DX 10 support would be tons better but it's full of bugs and unuseable , that's not microsofts fault but untill that changes I am forced to keep xp. |

Re: Glad I didn't install XP SP3
From what I read the problems with SP3 were mostly with PC vendors that were using the same install disk for AMD and Intel systems and they were screwing it up causing endless loops. I know HP has admitted causing a problem for their upgrades. But MS will take the heat for it all as usual. I'm sure there are other issues with hardware vendors that can't keep up, or won't.
