Glad I didn't install XP SP3

Well auto update popped up for XP3 a few days ago and I told it now thinking I should read about it first.

Well today I did, and I'm sure glad I didn't let it install

More dubious is the Windows Product Activation update, which makes the XP installation process more Vista-like. This means you’ll no longer be forced to input your Windows product activation key during installation (although you’ll still have to do so within 30 days or your OS will stop working).
However, it also means Windows XP will be tracking your hardware configuration in much the same way that Vista does, which could lead to your computer being disabled in the event that you change out fundamental components such as your motherboard or processor.
All things considered, Windows XP Service Pack 3 proves to be a fairly anticlimactic final release in the XP service pack line. It won’t blow up your computer, but it won’t make it very much better, either.

Re: Glad I didn't install XP SP3

LOL, your just paranoid. I have changed the CPU back and forth three times in the last three weeks testing CPU's for other peoples systems I was helping to build. No activation call. I have changed video cards, hard drives, no notice whatsoever in Vista. And I have an OEM version which was rumored to be worse but hasn't been.

XP is at end of life just like every OS before it. Deal with it people.

what i have read over the last few weeks so is vista..

Think ill hold on to XP till windows 7 pops in, unless games start needing vista to run.

@net just get a craked copy if you want sp-3 so bad.

Oh yeah? Got a link? Vista has many years left and it runs fantastic when you set it up right.

Re: Glad I didn't install XP SP3

Actually Jump this has nothing to do with hardware changes, as I don't change hardware often, and when I do its typically a complete rebuilt which requires a fresh install of windows...

What I'm concerned about is the Vista activation bull affecting my corp copy of XP and trying to validate. Its ok, I keep up to date on patches and there is always autopatcher to get them all installed in one go instead of using XP3 bundle

Re: Glad I didn't install XP SP3

Its a well known fact that vista sucks and microsoft have taken a left hook with it,

As for a link, google is your freind, windows 7 and your find a load of stuff out there even our old friend Mr Gates said it might be out next year (yes this is of course bollox, but he said it) I think the plan is to get it out in 2010 and after reading a lot about it it puts vista to shame.

Hell even xp does that.

but hey if your happy with it im not going to argue with you about what OS you use, as i really dont give a crap.

Re: Glad I didn't install XP SP3

It's a propagated fact that Vista sucks which means it's not necessarily a fact at all. Just people with big mouths on the internet talking about shit they never owned. Vista x64 is an awesome OS and I have been happy with it for the last year. So your links and internet mumbo jumbo are meaningless when compared to real world application.

Re: Glad I didn't install XP SP3

SP 3 was recalled last week because of issues with certain issues that caused issues. There was a report over at [H] and another at Beta News I believe.

Well in my experance sir vista boots slower, installs programs way way slower, network file copys and reads are slower. Dose it work ya but XP SP3 is reportaly 9% faster then xp SP2 and SP2 is faster then vista, so for fun I use vista (dx10) for work I use xp.

Re: Glad I didn't install XP SP3

SP1 fixed the network speeds. That's old news. It's not made for an older system and that's just a fact of life. On my new system it runs great. I have 8 GB of high speed ram and my swap file turned down to 200 MB since it's not really needed. And it's as fast as one of netburnr's lolcats being chased by my dog.
