I need another job
I am irritated. I failed the personality test on the Wal-mart application
Im trying to get a night job moving boxes. Half the questions in that thing arent even applicable in any position that I would apply for. I probably wont get hired at Target either, for the same reason. Thats about 3 hours of my life ill never get back ![]() |

Re: I need another job
The thing is, you have to lie on that kind of stuff. Tell them what they want to here.

Re: I need another job
I like interviews when they ask questions about the actual job you are applying for instead of following the STAR method, or trying to trick you by using multiple questions to gauge your honesty....
Sadly Only had one interview that asked questions about the job at hand, and I didn't end up taking it due to the lack of pay. |

Re: I need another job
Yeah its irritating as hell. "What are your 3 best attributes?" Honest, patient, hard working? Nah, dont need people like that in our loading docks. "Remember a time when you..." Ive been working for almost 15 years. I dont remember carp like that. I remember joking around, good places to eat, the time iI almost lost a finger... you know the interesting stuff. I feel sorry for anyone who remembers the mundane stuff in that much detail

Re: I need another job
I was at Target for 6 yrs, they dont have a personality test..just a standard interview. At least, they didnt...things may have changed, but I doubt it. Besides, Target is a better company to work for than Wal-Mart. Any Wal-Martian will tell you that.

Re: I need another job
I worked at Asda in the UK when it was taken over by Wal Mart. Believe me what you failed was a lack of personality test. What they really require is the ability to grin inanely, lie though your teeth whilst still being so unintelligent so as to have difficulty breathing and walking at the same time.
Was not the best time in my career :-( Smeg |

Re: I need another job
I can't speak to walmart or target. But I have a bit of experience on the other end of the table, and I can easily count on one hand the number of times i've hired somebody based on their skill set in relation to the job. 95% of the recruits i selected were based almost exclusively on "personality" things.
Anybody can move boxes, sell products, flip eggs, whatever. (If not, skills can be trained. Can't teach a brain, though.) But can you do it while inspiring your coworkers and customers to keep coming back and enjoying the service you provide? That's what I hire for, and I'm nothing approaching unique in this situation. The modern American and European markets are heavily biased toward 'personality'. If you want to be hired based purely on your skillset, find a production based economy rather than a service-driven one. |
