Job searching sucks
I found out a few hours ago that, even though I was high on the list for a job as the sole developer and maintainer of a very cool thing, I didn't get it. That was the last one that I have applied for that I was waiting to hear from, and now there's no more jobs I am qualified for around here. Even looking for anything at all, they're all either part time or requiring degrees/experience I don't have. I decided I'll need to move to get any decent work so if any of you people happen to know of any openings around you for a skilled programmer (application, game, web, whatever can be thrown at me) give me a heads up. I'd appreciate it.

@fluid
You will find something. Looks like the economy is stalling a bit again. Hopefully that won't last and companies will hire more peeps. Have you tried the online Job sites like Monster and others? Have you tried freelancing your skills? There are sites out there where you can bid on coding jobs. |

Yes I trolling monster and careerbuilder daily, but programming jobs are efw and far between. Freelancing is difficult with programming and I would rather continue working at the grocery store than freelance tech support. I'm aware of rentacoder.com, from its inception as I was a regular submitter at planet-source-code.com which is basically rentacoder's older brother, but I've always taken issue with the way the projects at rentacoder are handled. Allow me to rant.
<rant> Most projects there are either kids looking to pay someone off to do their homework or people looking to subcontract their projects to try to make themselves look good. Either way I'd be contributing to someone else's benefit and I'm not willing to take a few $50 projects to give them an edge over me. Genuine projects are usually underbid by kids or other people who aren't trying to earn a living off of it. Overall it's a waste of time to go sifting through the projects posted there looking for the diamond in the rough. </rant> But yeah, it looks like the economy is turning around ever so slowly, even though a large manufacturing company near here (with 700+ employees) just spontaneous shut its doors and told everyone to stay home. Hopefully the elections in November will result in something optomistic for the economy, but by this point I have no idea which candidate could provide that. I imagine it'll be a combination of who takes President and whether it matches the Congressional majority. |

Sorry, man, I know how you feel. Last year I went through the horrors of the job search. The getting up, searching, wasting time, not knowing what to do with your day. It sucked rocks. Now I'm overemployed (3 jobs), so just keep in there. Go to all the job sites, make sure your resume is up do date. Heck, post your resume on craigs list, that's how I found a few jobs rather quickly. Good luck!
