Life sure has it's ups and downs
Since last summer I have been suffering an increasing feeling of general malaise. Constant brain fog, severe short term memory problems, irritability, and other physical ailments. I haven't done much coding both because of a lack of desire and the inibility to consentrate. I struggle to get through my work day and usually come home with a headache. After seeing several specialists I have been diagnosed with mercury poisoning.
Between July last year and January this year I had 14 old amalgam fillings replaced with newer ceramic ones. Apparently the dentist didn't understand the need to protect me from the gas that is released when drilling them out. For some this may not have been a problem but I seem to have a sensitivity to this heavy metal. I grew up by an old quicksilver mine and when I was a kid I was exposed to the substance from a broken thermomiter. This most likely was the event that sensitized me to it. Unfortunately, insurance does not cover the chelation therapy that I need. So there are tough times ahead I guess. And I thought the last two years was bad enough. I am going to have to make some hard decisions in the comming months. Including the status of this and my other sites. I may have to sell them in order to stop the bleeding and pay for some of this treetment I need. Since no one seems interested in donating for the upkeep I am going to have to take a hard look at it. Hopefully something good will happen soon and I can avoid it. I just thought I would let you guys in on why I am not so active anymore. Anyway, happy gaming. |

LOL, you can't sue someone for a standardized practice. The problem is that there is varying viewpoints on the the problem and if there is a problem. It is interesting to note that the ADA has changed their position from "there is no problem" to one of not taking a stand on the issue anymore.
The doctor says I have to pay then when the results show the improvement I can sue the Insurance company. They end up paying much of the time. It will get done either way but it looks like this is another year where I won't get a new computer. That is depressing me. lol |

The good news is that one of my affiliates on another site released a new product yesterday and my link generated 8 sales. So that knocks off a couple hundred for the server bill.
The have me taking all these suppliments and precursors to try and flush out my system and they are making me sick. Hopefully my body will adapt soon. bleh. It's just too damn expensive to be healthy in our world. Hopefully I will be back to beer and pretzels soon. |

Jump, it sounds like you really may be one of the special few who have a higher than normal sensitivity to mercury. I genuinely wish you nothing but health and quality life. But I would get another opinion.
I watched the video and was ready to get all my mercury fillings yanked. Then I remembered that I don't have mercury fillings. I have amalgam fillings just like everyone else who's lived in modern society for the past 100 years or so; amalgam is an alloy of about 40% mercury. Hydrogen and oxygen are quite nasty elements as well, until mixed. So I hit google with "mercury fillings" and the very first hit (above even the ADA) was from Quackwatch (The "Mercury Toxicity" Scam:: How Anti-Amalgamists Swindle People). I read that one, I read the ADA (where they do still recommend amalgam fillings as perfectly safe), then I visited the website that produced the smoking tooth video and a few other mercury-is-bad sites. My honest evaluation is that if a person is experiencing real symptoms, then you should certainly get those symptoms tested and by more than 1 doctor. Make sure they do a urine test, not a breath test because the breath tester gives a false high reading (it's designed for a cubic meter of air, a lot more than even I have in my big mouth). Then I hit google one more time. This time with "smoking tooth scam" and the first hit was this guy who finally figured out the problem with the smoking tooth video. Mercury vapor at 37 degrees C is more dense than air by over six times, therefore it will sink (all the math is in the link). The vapor in the video cannot be mercury; it may be water or something else. I would hate to see anyone throw a ton of money at dental work that isn't needed. Will I get amalgam done again? Maybe...depends on the price difference (I prefer white looking teeth to silver looking teeth anyway). Will I rush to the dentist to get my amalgam removed? Not without noticeable symptoms and independent diagnosis from at least 2 dentist/doctors. BTW, I looked up Quackwatch's page on Osteopathy (my wife is a DO who did an MD residency in OB/GYN), and found Quackwatch's treatment to be quite fair...there are a decent number of DO quacks, and they're almost all in the manual medicine area. But then there's a ton of MD quacks too selling their own snake oil. |

That's all very well and good but I have been checked by three doctors. I grew up next to an old quicksilver mine that we used to sneek into. I also had a friend bring over a vile of the stuff that he got from thermometers when I was a kid and we played with it. This is why I am sensitized to it. The video is funny and entertaining but Alalgam is 50% mercury and I have High levels of it. Google can be your friend or your enemy. However, my diagnosis is from doctors not google.
Most people have no problem with strawberries or milk but then, some do. That's just how it is. We are all different and we don't all react the same. Heavy metals are no good to the human body and should never be put in the mouth or anywhere. I am not a quack and did not come by this by google so I don't know where your coming from here. One week after I had the first two amalgams removed I lost skin color in my hands on every place I have had a wound in my life. There are many other symptoms that I have that all point to mercury. So please, leave google out of it. Everyone has an opinion and google has too many of them. Anyway, I have decided on a longer term more natural way to remove it. The quicker ways are just too expensive and controversial. And the fact that you mention urine test means you have been reading stuff on high level sudden exposure of mercury. Such as in industrial accidents. That is where most mercury info lies. Long term slow exposure is a hold different thing. You can only find mercury in urine for a short time after exposure then it goes into the cells and stays there. The same with blood. Your post reminds me of that quack doctor from the outback of Australia several years ago that everyone was crying foul over when he said most ulsers are from bacteria. Now his work is gospel and the world has changed. google had plenty of quack reports on him as well. |

The quicksilver mine and thermometer stuff was why I said that it sounds like you are one of the people who really are sensitive to mercury and should get it checked out. After seeing the bogus video, I was mostly just afraid that some quack was taking advantage of your H&P conveniently fitting their target profile.
I'm pleased to hear you got multiple professional diagnoses (which is all I was suggesting that you should do, not knowing you had already done it...on re-reading, I think I overlooked that "several specialists" sentence of your initial post), and I'm glad that your real life symptoms have improved as a result of treatment. I have neither love nor hate for amalgam. I really don't care what kind of fillings people put in their teeth. However I really don't like those video folks spreading FUD that ignores mass, gravity, and the laws of physics and then tagging a logo like "show me the science" on the tail of their parlor trick. My only motivation for posting at all was because I don't want the people I care about (the Jumpgate community, you included) to have the same kneejerk reaction I did at first casual view of the video. I've got a mouthful of work coming up in the next year as well, and my first reaction to the video was "damn, I have to get all that crap out of my mouth" then I thought "maybe I'll dig a little deeper" since something didn't feel right about the way the video used such short clips, and the same few clips replayed over and over. Anyway, how about a simple: get well soon; and then I'll just mind my own. |
