Off Topic
So, for those who don't know I live in a small town called Rhinelander in wayyyy Northern Wisconsin. If you've watched the news in the past couple days you may have noticed a story about the Sheriffs deputy that shot and killed 6 kids before taking his own, it unfotunately put my area of the world on the map, it was about 10 miles from me. Our Ambulance (hence my name if you don't know already) provided aid to Crandon. Hits pretty close to home, was by far the worst call I have ever been on. You can read the story here: WSAW - Crandon if you haven't heard about it (you must live in a cave, or overseas, it has been all over the national news)
If you are the religious type, keep them in your prayers, they need all the help they can. If your not the religious type, send some positive thoughts this way, this area needs all the help it can get. ~Medic |

Re: Off Topic
It is horrible when a tragedy makes your local community the center of attention. When I was a wee bairn (small child) I lived in a place Wrenthorpe in 1973. The local coal mine was at place called Lofthouse. Well one day the mine flooded, for days the media descended to the bottom of our street where an audacious rescue plan was taking place.
In the end it all came to nothing and their were 7 deaths. I was too young to realise the enormity of the events at the time (I was just amazed I'd seen my first helicopter!!), But later, after all the statues were built and the name of the pubs locally changed to things like "The Rescuers" did it all sink in. We all think "things like this happen to other people" and most of the time we're right. But I remember one of the dead was the father of a girl I went to school with. So sometimes we're wrong. Dont know why I replied to this, it's just the original post struck a real chord. Smeg P.S. For historical info on what I refer to click here |
