Re: Offline Gaming?
The military uses paintball bullets now for CQB training, most fun I've ever had in the field. Gotta be careful where you aim though because you're talking a much higher muzzle velocity than your standard N/CO2 marker. A badly placed round on something unprotected could easily break the skin.

Re: Offline Gaming?
I went once with some friends in college. We went with some people his dad worked with. Turns out, half of them were rednecks and came out in all camo and leave covered nets and ****. Kinda scared me at first. Was a lot of fun tho. I felt like I was in Nam... walking through the woods, bushes 5 feet high, shots firing across my head, diving and rolling through a creek before crawling through some small brush... only to crawl around a bush and get tagged by someone lying in wait just on the other side.
Although seeing an enemy in the distance, them not knowing you are there, taking cover under a fallen tree, popping out behind them and tagging them from 20 yards is always a blast too. I'd go again if I had any friends nearby that weren't pansies or old. |

Re: Offline Gaming?
Ahh, found the thread. I remember posting this and we were just discussing when we went. One of the boys we took has been a friend of my sons since 1st grade. He moved to Long Beach over the summer after his Dad got his Doctoral from Stanford. He was run down and killed by a car walking to school last week. Such a tragic end to a young life. I believe that this trip was the last time I had talked to the boy. I had seen him around and my son hung out with him a lot, but this was the last time I had talked to him.
Alec was a nice young boy, very smart. He had this huge Mohawk which seemed out of place here in the valley. I remember on this trip we were focusing on shooting that hairy target. By the end of the day it was sagging from the heavy load of pink paint. He didn't care, he knew who he was and was comfortable with his style. I used to tease him about how I had a Mohawk not only long before he was born, but probably before his Dad was born. He used to laugh at that. We saw online how all the kids in his new school have made a memorial to him on the side of the road. The kids here don't have a place to lay the flowers and teddy bears. But they have made a memorial to him in their hearts. So many black clothes and painted messages of grief. It's his birthday this Sunday. He would have been 13. So there will be more somber clothing and moods at school on Monday. We'll always remember this paint ball trip now. It will hold a special place in our hearts. More than just a fun day, a cherished memory. Something that the pictures can never do justice. We're going to go again next year Alec, and we will all be thinking of you. It's important to do things with people. You never know when the opportunity will no longer be there. Playing games online is fun, but living life with the people around you is more fun and lasting. Don't miss out. |
