Offline Gaming?
Can you believe it there are actually offline games?
My second son turned 13 on Sunday and he wanted to have a paintball party. So we trudged out to the country with a few carloads of kids. To be honest I had aniticipated a laborous and boring day. Seemed like it would be too much like all those mundane drills and events we did in the service all those many years ago when I was young. As it turned out, it was a blast. It seems that shooting your kids (or marking as they say) can be quite fun. There is nothing link flanking a group of know it alls and coming up up from behind and taking them out. Anyone else ever go paintballing? It's quite fun and we plan to go again. |

I am a pretty regular PBer in the warmer months. Never gone pro or anything, but I have played against and with several that did. I am more of what's called a 'Woodsball' player as I like scenario games like CTF or Objective Missions more than the now common 'Speedball'.
I thoroughly enjoy the thrill of hunting or to be hunted in Paintball. I think it is a great sport that teaches confidence, leadership, and teamwork along side all the military/combat tactics. Editted to add: The fact that this thread lists Paintball as "Offline Gaming" is freakin awesome. |

We used the rental equipment. But I was watching some of the other non-noobs and you could see how quality equipment would make it more fun. It kind of ruins the moment when your gun squirts paint instead of a paintball. Or you have to shake it to get the balls to drop in again.
Airsoft seems like it takes too much time and re-enactment. I just liked the idea of quick games and splattering someone. ![]() |

I do have to say though, walking on to a field full of 'new' players and carrying your own equipment is kinda fun. You might not be able to hit the broad side of barn, but all the 'first-timers' think you're Rambo. I usually like to add to that by wearing a red bandana and a sleeveless shirt. It scares the buhjeezus outta people. |

I used to PB, years ago, but on a casual basis, using rental equipment. Several moves later, I didn't have anyone around to play with/against, aside from the murderous bastiches who play professionally, and pass their spare time plinking newbies at any of the local PB fields around here.

The one we went to has walk-ons and they seperate them by experience. I could probably hang with the experienced once once I got a good feel for the tragectory of the balls. I did a lot of this crawl and duck crap during my years in the service and it's pretty much all the same. Tactics don't change just because it's paint. A bit more fun when there isn't a bunch of DI's yelling at you though.

Re: Offline Gaming?
I'm just guessing here, but I figure a fat old man in a manual wheelchair would make one hell of a big target. Think I'll stick with on-line gaming.
Then again, we all know I'm a dedicated coward/non-combatant. Even during VietNam war games no one wanted my services. |
