Some are a pain, but they have gotten better. Tigerdirect is the only one I know of thats had a lot of complaints lately. I got 2 nice 19" lcd monitors last year for $100 rebate each. Even w/o the rebate, $100 isnt bad for that JS..its gone down like $50+ in the last 6 months.

I don't buy anything with rebates anymore. I think they should be outlawed or there should be oversite. The scam is you need you barcode and then you can't return the item without the barcode. Then there is the fact that you are most likely not getting the check.

Thats the problem I've had, I have sent in at least 6 rebate request only to actually get 1. I had 3 with no response, and 2 that said I did not provide all the required info, even when I sent them a copy of the receipt and the original UPCs...

Ive learned from people on slickdeals.net that you have to be very orderly and diligent sometimes to make sure the rebates work. Keep copies of everything you send with dates written when u sent, etc. Sometimes if you didnt send something they needed, they'll let you send in missing stuff if you kept good records.

That's all very well and good, but you will also learn from peeps at slickdeals that rebates are a ripoff. They are outside companies that have no motivation to send you a check.
