I for one believe that the mechanical spin drives are short lived. They discussed chips that fit on credit cards about 9 years ago that could hold over a terabyte of data. shortly after that, holographic memory was discussed.
I feel now that we are in the further clutches of those who will reap $, then release the credit card- non movable players, in a few years (maybe 3-5 years).... then soon it will be all downloaded (though a push to download media is happenning now)... Just my observation... |

All of this because my DVD drive died the other day....actually the DVD drive didn't die, the IDE controller on the motherboard died. in 3 years Blu-ray is going to be dead. With Netflix downloads improving who is going to want to wait 2 days to watch a video they can download in 2 minutes
