SO I went through all 48 pages of movies in list mode and marked about 10 of them, went with the 2 discs max and the blu-ray option (for $3 more).

All of this because my DVD drive died the other day....actually the DVD drive didn't die, the IDE controller on the motherboard died. So I had to get a SATA drive, and I figured I'd get a Blu-Ray while I was at it. Of course, now I have to get an external enclosure so that I can have a spiffy external DVD burner. lol
Just look for movies in the normal section and choose what you want to see. If it has bluray you will recieve that. Also, each movies info lists available formats. The bluray section just shows you the latest additions.

Thats why I'm all digital. I haven't bought a physical copy of a CD, DVD, etc in a few years now.

And with the US Broadband system, you can not download a Blueray in 2 minutes :P More like 20-30 minues with the fastests connections available such as roadrunner turbo and Verizon FIOS, and thats assuming a 720rip, a 1080 is twice as long. Basically a 16mbit/sec connection can just barely stream 1080p

I dunno, AT&T and a couple others are experimenting with bandwidth caps. If they can pull it off it will screw downloadable media bigtime

Re: So what's the deal with Bluray?

Well I purchased my first BD movie. Amazon had the Planet of The Apes collection as the Gold Box deal on Saturday for $57. I remember seeing them in the theater as a kid and couldn't resist. I shouldn't have spent the cash but it was a good deal for the set. What a sucker.

Re: So what's the deal with Bluray?

Well I hear the blue ray movies that are reformats of old movies are not very good. The only way they look good is if the movie is actually shot in the high definition that blue ray has... so movies made in the last 5ish years. Of course I haven't seen the proof myself, but it makes sense to me.

Re: So what's the deal with Bluray?

Well the reviews of people that owned said it was excellent quality. I'll find out when I see it. It just depends on the skill of the group that remasters it.

Re: So what's the deal with Bluray?

Got the set today. It looks better than I remember in the theater. Plus it has tons of extra features and interviews. I wouldn't pay the retail price but for the deal I got it's all good.

lol the race is on....I'm only at 2.75 TB so you have me beat for now. I'm going to assume you meant TB and not gb since 2.75 gb of storage would be woefully small. lol

Re: So what's the deal with Bluray?

Yes Yes, 2.8Tb.

That doesn't count the 2 500GBs I use for my system/download partitions, so technically I have over 3tb of fully redundant storage

Actually almoust all movies, even the old old ones and those shot right now are shot with 35mm cameras which gives you 4096×3072 resolution.. BluRay resolution is 1920x1080.

The problem is transfering from film to Bluray..

edit: if you think about it.. it would made no sense to transfer old movies to Bluray if their resolution didnt came close to that.. Might aswell then used VHS or DVD..

Re: So what's the deal with Bluray?

High Definition is actually a television term. So if it's a theatrical movie and the peeps doing the remaster to bluray are worth their paycheck, then it's a good thing.

Now the musical score and sound is a whole different ballgame.
