Sooo.....

...did everyone get there taxes filed on time? This is the first year I filed as late as the 14th and didn't owe. I just never had time till I was out of time.

Not getting much back this year either. I'm sure the wife has already appropriated it anyway.

Yes I had mine completed on Thursday. LOL I also delayed but we got quite a bit this year but next year is going to suck since I sold my other house and I have to pay capital gains on it.

And I find it more than a little amusing that everyone is so amped at getting money back that was actually theirs to begin with...

See that's the wrong way to think about it. Think about it more like "The government gave you time during the year to make enough money so they can keep it, but you didn't, so you get it back."

Besides, the process of getting money back is much better than not paying anything at all during the year and then getting a bill for 25% of your gross income and telling you to pony up. If you ask me, they're doing you a service. I know I'd have a hard time saving 25% of my paycheck without it being denied to me in the first place.

Yeah, it's money you probably wouldn't have saved anyway.

There's quite a difference between "getting amped" and declining to pull the equivalent of getting into an argument with the weather. My ranting about taxes is waaaay beyond the scope of this forum, however, so I'll zip up on the subject.

(But to summarize, "slimey blood-sucking leaches" is the kindest thing I have to say about the IRS in particular, and the government in general. )

I'm probably throwing fuel into your fire, but the IRS is a waste of taxpayer money, and federal income tax in general should be abolished. Federal sales tax, at least, would make much more sense, especially when it comes to spending money on things that are already federally taxed as it is (i.e., gas or savings bonds). The government taxes on products that are being bought with money that has already been (or as far as they're concerned, should have been) taxed. Gotta pick one or the other.

There's several fires onto which you're throwing fuel, fluid, but I'm not going to let any of them flare up here, as they're just as off-topic as tax rants.
