Hey guys:

I noticed recently but I can't pinpoint the when in case you wonder, my Task Manager reports that my CPU is averaging between 18 to 24% load, but at the same time, if you check the processes... its 99% on iddle

I've eliminated the stuff that I know I can remove, like activesync and simple stuff like that, or the ATI Media Center stuff that I dont use and such, but still is at that same %, there's no change.

My Linux drive is different from the windows drive, so Im feeling that is totally unrelated.

I started noticing it some week and a half ago, when friends would come over and wanted to see a sample of what HD 720 is and my 720 content is behaving badly, missing frames, sound is perfect, but Im missing frames and thats bad.

All I can get to find for now is that the system is using 20% on average of my CPU to do nothing (or nothing listed). I have never before have this problem, watching 720HD content was easy for my computer, 1080 on the other side is too much, so I know what to look. The content is indeed 720, torrent stuff, documentaries mostly (IMAX and BBC).

Any ideas please let me know

Sounds like spy ware to me. This title scared me though.

I use spybot search and destroy, havent done since the last time I updated to the most recent version. The only obvious change that I did with the update was to active the settings protection (TeaTimer) and I had thought that this was the culprit to my missing frames on movies (mostly HD stuff), but even if I get it out of memory... it doesnt get better.

Will try again the spyware look...

Hijackthis... I havent liked it much, I prefer spybot but guess I'll end up doing it if spybot doesnt find it.

Since the drive is already fubared after long years of service, decided to get a new 250gig drive, so Im going to get offline and play with ghost

If you go "View > Show Kernel Times" I'll put money on all that CPU time going to kernel use. Probably a device driver of some sort making big demands on the system

View >> Show Kernel times... this option doesnt exist on XP Pro, or the one I have at least. I went to options and found CPU time, which I added to the view, but shows nothing abnormal.

Found it, well, to my surprise, now load is back to normal. In iddle between 2 to 7%, which is a lot better. Dont ask me what I did cause I have no idea. Maybe all this time the system was playing tricks with me, no clue.

Gonna make the ultimate test and load the HD file that has always worked flawlessly....
