Radi, we go to a zoo to see a tiger, and other dangerous beasts, because we sure as hell ain't going to the wild to see them! If I want to see a "wild animal" I'd much rather see them in a zoo or on TV. In the wild I'm more likely to become a dinner item than to remain a mere observer. Besides, most of those places where wild animals are, tend to NOT be handicap accessible. For some, the only safe place for the animal is IN the zoo. Zoos do more to save, and propogate, the various species than the natives in the lands the animals come from who are more likely to eat the animal or to poach it and sell it or various parts of it.

Zoos are the best way to get the average urban dweller to give a damn about some animal that used to live somewhere else. It's just like hunters do more to support wildlife conservation with all the licenses and fees they pay, than most PETA members do, both monetarily and actually. I have no sympathy for the alleged victims but it's a damn shame the tiger was able to get out and force the cops to shoot it.
