Re: What defines a society?

I think you need to add some context to explain your question.

Re: What defines a society?

the vague ambiguity is key, it leaves things open to interpretation and its the interpretation that's more telling than the replies

Re: What defines a society?

A society is defined by the ability of its members to start pretentious threads.

Re: What defines a society?

It's on topic now that it's in general chat.

There are too many differing opinions on what constitutes a society which is why we have wars and discussion boards.

Re: What defines a society?

What is more important, philosophy or actions? Intent or deeds?

IMO a society is an agregation of individuals who generally agree to abide by certain rules of interaction to produce an atmosphere where each individual can reach their greatest potential. So I would think a society would be defined both by the rules it agrees toand by the populances reaction to those rules.

(inflamitory comments deleted to perserve harmony).

Re: What defines a society?

so applied to social gaming, like in mmo's, would you say that rules are wholly necessary and integral to the shape the social interactions, or are they limiting factors?

Re: What defines a society?

That would depend on who's rules they are.

Re: What defines a society?

Without rules we would have anarchy , which is the break down of a society

Re: What defines a society?

I would say they are necessary as they give a context to actions/relationships/beliefs as well as helping to define that society as compared/opposed to others...

Society or Community, compare and contrast

Remind me why are we talking about this again?
