Post [TRI News] Pilots, Factions Split Over Duelist Protest

107.4.10.19:41.33

By Rafel Solamis
Solrain Core (TRI-FP) - Pilots
and Factional governments expressed mixed opinions today following pilot
Me_1's protest buy of all Duelist Targeting Computers available on the open
market, galaxy-wide."This is a protest, to
try and get the miners, haulers, producers, and any Economist minded players a
place to be heard through the strength of our actions and their impacts on other
pilots and what ever officials TRI cares to spare."

Pilot Me_1 apparent grievances are centered on
three main points:

"1st point: The economy is crippled, their is too little commods at any given
moment to produce a meaning full amount of any given product. And I understand
how the system works but the facts are that, there are too little pilots to do
the mining and the payoffs are too little, which in turn leaves us with less and
less miners to get the needed ores and what ever they can provide.

"2nd point: Hauling has nearly NO payoff at all, and since it is dangerous due to
the slow moving ships and long haul times, most pilots would rather do something
else. Some still haul a bit when an FM needs commods, but mostly it does not
exist anymore, MACK=gone GOD=gone etc. etc. etc.

"3rd point: Production due to the "lack" of hauling and mining. Production is
such a long process, since we need to mine ourselves haul ourselves and THEN be
able to produce and distribute it amongst the TRI stations or do what ever we
want with the items. Production of equipment and other commods is so rare that
I only know one pilot still doing it with some measure of success, and that's
pilot InterOrka, and I respect him for continuing, but the reality is that if he
stopped tomorrow, the day after a lot of stuff would become unavailable."

Pilot opinions on the three point protest ranged
from expressing the futility of his actions, to limited support and
understanding for his reasons crossing over to utter contempt and actual threats
issued against the pilot.

The opinions of the Factional governments mirrored
the range of pilot opinion, with the STCC being the first to issue a statement
of support on the actions of pilot Me_1:

"We applaud the actions of Me_1 in a true showing
of Solrain ingenuity and economic prowess."

While the embattled Octavian manufacturer OPL
expressed satisfaction over the mass consumption of one of its premier items,
the Octavian government expressed a differing opinion:

"While the Empire is glad that the fruits of our labors find such popularity with our Solrain neighbors and gladly except their credits for the funding of our campaigns, we are concerned that the actions of Me_1 may have a negative impact upon the fleet operations of our glorious pilots. We highly suggest that Solrain pilot Me_1 return a suitable quantity of the devices to our space immediately before his own greed proves to be his undoing."

The High Defender of the Faith of Quantar stated flatly:

"The heretic is more interested in his greed than any apparent glory."

It is not clear as to what pilot Me_1 exactly hopes to achieve with his desire for non-combatants to "be heard" or how long this protest will last, but the effects of his actions may have long lasting repercussions both for himself and TRI space.

This was one of the better written TRINN articles (i thought), but the subject matter was terribly unfortunate.

p.s. Jump, you ever figure out why these were getting cut off?

I agree, but I felt it legitimized what Me_1 is doing, which is unfortunate.

I also was disappointed with content of the STCC's response (which you and all of Solidarity knows, but I'm posting for public consumption). And Solrain has yet to even read my PM expressing our IC disappointment, which can be summarized by my last line...

I think the "all greed is good" for the STCC is as flimsy as saying that Quants don't need balanced fighting ships since "they are the weapons" or that all Octs are stupid gun-heavy lugs. Summarizing entire societies in a single sentence and then roleplaying according to that sentence is shallow to say the least, and happens all too often with pilots. It usually does not happen with TRINN/RPCs, which is why I was so disappointed with the STCC's support of the duelist stripping.
