Hey guys

well I have a problem, I have an Xbox 360 Controller and well I want to use it for the PC, so common sense I would plug in the controller in the USB port, The Hardware wizard would pop up, detect the driver, download it and then it gives me this...


So I then go to my Game controllers under Control Panel and its not listed at all, I manual it and it tells me "Gameport or Gameport Drivers are not propery configuered"

So anyways I dunno what to do, I went to Microsoft.com to download anything for the controller, I got some software program but nothing to detect the controller, I would think the Ring lights on the controller would light up but nope, it only lights up if u plug in the USB port and well it only lights up for a second.

can anyone help me out?

Well I did everything you told me to do, I already downloaded the Xbox 360 controller Status thing and still doesnt work.

I did the Run program thing, it tells me to select the controller name in the window, there isn't anything there.

I downloaded that Game profile thing, it found the game but didnt detect a Controller plugged in.

Still...nothing is working .

Are you using an older computer and USB 1.1?

Another question is, are you using a wireless controller and trying to play with the USB cable that is simply for charging the unit? I haven't had a need for the controller on Windows so I don't know for sure but you may need to use the wired controller not the wireless one.

well heres the thing, I dunno what kind of USB port i have but I will say that it lights up when you plug it in but only for a few seconds.

Its a Wired Controller.

Have you tried it on another system? That would be a good test of whether it is the unit itself or your system.

Sounds similar to a problem I had been having around the same time. I had bought a gamestop Xbox 360 Controller to use for Windows last Christmas. It installed fine, it would do the post light up check when plugging in and stay lit up for player one. Until one day when it would light up for a second and just go off. I messed around with the wire some and had to curl it a certain way and tape it off just to keep it's connection. I found that mine had a problem near the wire area near the female end breakaway part. I grabbed the wire near the breakaway and started shoving it into the breakaway female end. Ever since it's worked again. I think you may have the same problem, it's a loose wire. When you plug in the controller a signal is sent through a certain wire to the controller to validate it's usb connection then a signal is sent back, but when the wire is loose on the way back, that's your problem I think.

You could do 3 of the following.

1. Try my shove wire back into breakaway female end. (or if anything just wiggle the wire some in that area.
2. Buy a replacement cable and rewire it.
3. Cut the wire before the breakaway area and after and splice it directly to the usb end.
