sidewinder usb adapter problems

I have a microsoft sidewinder precision pro and it uses a serial connection. I bought a nexxtech USB adapter and connected it and cant' get my computer to properly recognize the joystick and calibrate it properly. Can anybody help me out with this?

Third-party joystick port -> USB adapters don't play nicely with the Sidewinder line, in my experience. Somewhere I think I have the gameport->USB adapter that came with my old Sidewinder stick, but damned if I can narrow it down beyond "somewhere", in the warzone that is my room.

I might have one for the old SideWinder too. But where it is... bought it when US beta closed down, so can be anywhere.

But try to make a add somewhere to see if someone still has his old.
