You know, I wouldn't be surprised if it helps our GPU sales even in advance of [the port's completion]. The reason is, [it's] just gonna be a software download. Every single GPU that is CUDA-enabled will be able to run the physics engine when it comes. . . . Every one of our GeForce 8-series GPUs runs CUDA.

Well, Nvidia Purchased Ageia so expect the next gen cards to have a PhysX processor sitting next to the GPU.

Thats the thing though....they don't even have to use their chips, their 8 series chip already has the horsepower needed, all they have to do is port of over their technology to the nvidia language so the card can understand it.

Re: "GeForce 8 cards to gain PhysX support via software dowload"

They're just blowing smoke to keep people buying the current lineup. It's the same crap logic that people used saying "omg, I have teh quad cpu I don't need teh physx chip." The facts haven't changed. Emulating physX takes away from everything else and is very resource intensive. If you want true physX it needs hardware. I will say it now. You will see PhysX chips on Nvidia cards in the future.

And more importantly, you will see Nvidia acquire some form of CPU whether through acquisition or in house. We are heading towards three companies that produce all in one motherboards for mass produced systems. I just hope we will still be able to get them individually for the enthusiast.
