Hell, I'm so busy I still haven't migrated to my new 500 GB hard drive... but the thought of finding and reinstalling my drivers over again makes me sick. I wish there was an easy way of just dumping my old HD data on to my new one, a la the Xbox 360 hard drive upgrade cable thingy.

Welcome to the Future Jump. Where you're going you don't need roads.
There is a utility called ghost from Norton/Symantec that will copy over your hard drive sector by sector and no reinstall is needed. Its a pay program, but not too expensive and of course im sure you can find it or some sort of free utility on the web somewhere. Some hard drive manufacturers also include or have downloadable software that lets you copy your stuff over as well.

And no RMA hell yet Jump?

Nope, not yet. I did a lot of preemptive maintenance prior to booting up. Such as removing the chipset coolers and replacing the 10 pounds of crap thermal putty with a thin layer of quality stuff. It's kind of hard to get heat to move through an 1/8th inch of poo. I did the same for the voltage regulator heat sinks. There are many things you can do prior to setup to eliminate heat issues. Heat is the killer. Still, I cross my fingers.

Are you speaking of Norton Ghost Milk? I wonder if I can run my new SATA drive and my IDE drive at the same time... then just have the program copy it over.

I think Jump built his new computer to keep this forum alive so he wouldn't have to delete it like the Drakai forums.

You would think on a gaming site people would post about their rigs.

I am.. and it should. I can't guarantee that, every computer is different, but i don't see any reason why it shouldn't work.

Re: Closing in on my final descision for my new rig.

Well that's great news! I know my Nero suite had some sort of backup app and it had the option of storing the backup on the hard drive instead of discs. This leads me to infer that I might be able to hook both hard drives up and somehow use Ghost to store the backup right on the new drive. Of course, inference also lets me decide that if a woman weighs more then or equal to a feather then she must be a witch... Wish me luck!

Oh, and Jump, can you post the final specifications of your rig? Or are they just in the first post?

Re: Closing in on my final descision for my new rig.

Ghost would make a bit for bit copy of your hard drive to the new one. windows would never know that it moved hard drives, no need to reinstall anything. Install ghost, run it and "ghost" the drive from old to new, turnoff computer, unplug old drive, and start it back up, Done.

And back on topic... Jump got any games on that thing yet?

Not yet. Still tweaking it. I got the 2.4 CPU up to 3.2 and still under voltage specs so I will probably go for a 3.6 and see how it sails.

I am trying to update my MB bios but can't seem to figure out how to make the iso file a bootable CD in Vista. I miss my old Nero.

Re: Closing in on my final descision for my new rig.

I earned some money this week tweaking some peoples websites so I bought a new monitor. I love my 21" CRT but it's hurting my eyes too much these days. So I got a 22" LCD wide screen. I wanted something bigger but I can save for that and give my kids this one when i get it.

Re: Closing in on my final descision for my new rig.

I'm sure loving this 22" wide screen LCD. I thought I would lose something in height with the side screen but it's actually is a bit bigger horizontally and of course much wider. So I'm good to go.

I have been messing with some DX10 game demos and all I can say is damn. We've come a long way from pong.
