Closing in on my final descision for my new rig.
Feel free to tear it up or whatever. It's at a little over $1400 now. I guess I will need an operating system too. They usually help.

Re: Closing in on my final descision for my new rig.
If your not going to splurge on the 8800GTS... might i suggest an 8600 card instead of the 7900. The 8xxx series adds dirextX10 support which may help the longevity of your PC.
Also..im a fan of the new Seagate drives myself. the xxxxxx.10 ones. They have 5 year warrentys and are slightly faster then other drives due to their "Perpendicular recording technology". Looks like a nice machine... can ya build one for me too? |

Re: Closing in on my final descision for my new rig.
The reason I have the 7900 there now is because I am not yet full up to date with the latest. Do the 8800's run DX9 as well as DX 10? I wasn't sure which is the only reason it's not a choice yet. It's only $100 more.
After more research I think I am going to get a 680i board instead. I didn't realize the 650i was only 1x16 on the PCIe. I was looking at the Seagate as it was a little cheaper but a lot of the reviews kept saying it was noisier and slower. *shrugs |

Re: Closing in on my final descision for my new rig.
I couldn't care less how noisy my hard drive is since I seriously doubt I'll ever hear it when it matters (I like lots of sound when I'm gaming
), as far as dx9 compatibility goes, I have to assume a dx10 card will be reverse compatible with dx9 or else a vast majority of them would still be sitting on merchants shelves collecting dust. |

Re: Closing in on my final descision for my new rig.
I have 2 320 seagates in my PC raid1 (yey for backups). And i do not hear them. I know some of the earlier drives had loud seek noises... at least according to reviews. Maybe i was just lucky?
I guess i didn't look to closly at your motherboard. If your looking for long term.. and have money to spend.. maybe a P35 chipset with DDR3? Or here at work we just build a bunch of 965 chipset based boards (asus p5b). They don't have SLI support.. but we don't need that in an office environment anyway. The 680i nvidia chipset is a good choice too... just don't go with the VIA chipset. As for the 1x16... stats on newegg show 2x16... and really that only matters if your doing SLI. Edit: oh and yes the dx10 cards run dx9 just fine. |
