Heat

I have a problem that would like some opinions on. My computer has been running hot for the last couple of months. I know this by puttin my hand on the output fan on the Power supply and it's extremily warm to the point I can't keep my hand there long.

I have dusted it out and checked all of the fans and everything still seems to be working. My hard drive cable was pretty dried out last time I checked it so I replace it.

the case has a group of little fans but don' seem to move that much air. Tonight I took the side off after it froze up while I was playing SWG to get rid of the excess heat in there now. I know this is also not good and now the design of the box is not going to get the air flow as designed.

Any other ideas?. I may be going out to buy a new case this weekend as I see a very cool one that is supposed to be a chiller.

set up an entire waterfin system. basically it's like a water cooler for a computer. sets in one of the larger fan slots,or you can make one for it in a case. pumps 65 degree air into it 24/7. then you just need a good exhaust setup.

Where would I find out more about this system? I looked under google and not showed up on first page. :>

Getting heat out of a computer is often all about the airflow. Check your fans to see which direction they're facing, and reverse them as needed to set up a "tunnel" effect, with cool air being drawn in towards the front/bottom, and the hotter air being expelled at the top/back. You may need to tidy up your cables internally if they're blocking the airflow.

If all else fails, leave the side off and face a desk fan into the case - that's about as good a source of cool air as you're likely to get.

You did mention that you dusted it out, but it might pay to carefully disassemble the main heatsinks (CPU/video card) IF YOU KNOW HOW and clean them of dust. Be aware that replacing them may involve putting new heat sink compound on - if so, grab some "artic silver" or the like, and use as thin a coating as possible - it's supposed to fill in air-gaps, not used as a gasket

If none of that works, then the next steps would be a case with better airflow, or upgraded heatsink/fans, or if you wanted to get extreme, a watercooling setup or refrigerated case...

LOL Hey I killed 132 flux in three days of playing. That is good for me.!! :>

I have been caught up with SWG, and Battlefield 2 and just being lazy around the house.

Thanks I have taken the side off for the moment iwth a fan and it is keeping it cool enough to keep it from popping.

Well, that's usually considered a temporary fix, althought I do know some people...

If that did indeed solve your problem, then you'll need to look into getting better airflow through your case, as I said above.
