Logitech Cordless MX Duo

Does anyone who has this (or a similar Logitech product) know how to use a different (corded) keyboard, but still use the cordless MX700 that came with the MX Duo?

For those that may not know why this is an issue, here's the scoop: The MX duo uses a single receiver base station to communicate with the mouse and keyboard. I don't like the keyboard, and want to go back to using a corded MS Natural Multimedia keyboard, but still use the MX700 cordless mouse that came with the MX Duo set. The receiver station has one cable coming out of it that splits into a usb connector, and a green ps/2 connector. The usb connector is plugged into a usb/ps2 converter, which is then plugged into the PS/2 keyboard port on the computer. The green ps/2 connector is plugged into the mouse port on the computer.

If I simply unplug the usb connector, the keyboard and mouse no longer work. If I plug the usb connector into a usb port, the keyboard will work, but the mouse will not. If I plug a corded keyboard into the ps/2 keboard port on the computer, it will work whether the Logitech unit is plugged into a usb port or not. However, the mouse will not work.

I've searched Logitech's forums (which such, btw), and have not found anything even close to what I want to do. Although many people say that the mouse and keyboard can work with the usb connector plugged into a usb port, and the mouse ps/2 connector not plugged in at all. So there's the chance that I have a defective product, I guess.

It's possible that it draws power from both the PS/2 and the USB sources, so depending on how much they cared to engineer the product so you could use another keyboard/mouse it may not be possible.
