newegg.com has a P4 motherboard for FREE after rebates. It's not the best but reviews place it as the "middle of the road". If your computer is hurting and it's time for an upgrade, get it while the gettin's good. I just ordered mine.

I just realized a very important detail after I ordered it. The second rebate expires 09/06. And I am going to be gone all week. I don't even think it will arrive by that date unless I chose overnight. That seems kind of scam like to me.

Here's the memory my friend and I had decided looked like a good idea, based on what the board can support, price, and reviews. It's a 512mb stick for $80.

The processors are pretty much whatever-you-feel-like-and-can-spend. I was eyeing a 2.4ghz p4 prescott for $128, while my friend was eying the 3ghz for $170. Prices were from pricewatch.com, though they won't vary by much if you get them anywhere else.

My motherboard has arrived. It will still take me a couple months to get the parts together though. It will nice to no longer hear the kids and wife complain about their system.

Then I can work on building me a new one.
