Re: Possible New PC Specs
Well, if it's for gaming then get the E8400 not the quad.
The video card is already out of date but not too bad. I would get an EVGA Nvidia SLI MB so you can add another card if you find you are dragging in some new game you fall in love with. better PS Newegg.com - CORSAIR CMPSU-620HX ATX12V v2.2 and EPS12V 2.91 620W Power Supply 100 - 240 V UL, CUL, CE, CB, FCC Class B, TUV, CCC, C-tick - Power Supplies If you want to use all that memory then you need Vista 64. I use it and it's great. Make sure you get the one with SP1 already on it. You can get the OEM version cheaper. Best Hard drive on the market right here. Newegg.com - Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD6400AAKS 640GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - Internal Hard Drives I always look in the Hot Deals forum at slickdeals.net before I buy anything. I advise you to do the same. You're bound to save a ton of cash. |

Re: Possible New PC Specs
If he is going to do that then it would be better to get the one I linked above. Those drives have the same read times as the raptors. They are a two spindle drive so they are fast and should last a long time. I have two in my system and the are fast.
As far as 10k. They are good for the game drive or the OS drive but they are small. WD is releasing the Velociraptor soon which has set new speed records in tests. They are fast. And they will be doubling the current max size to 300 GB. |

Re: Possible New PC Specs
All this damn technology to choose from!!
I would imagine this time next year Solid State Drives will be starting to work their way into the main stream. They are running over $1000 dollars now for the 64 gig version... I looked at the specs of Jumps Drive recommendataion and they look like a great deal. The Mobo though, im just not sure. Im starting to lean towards the Intel X48 series because they support DDR3 memory. Only issue is most boards right now are over $300.00 I may sit on it for a few days and price out a system both ways to see that makes more sense. |

Re: Possible New PC Specs
If you want a rock solid board go for the Intel desktop boards. They're really good build quality and have most of the features you need. If I can sell my current Gigabyte X38 board I'll buy an Intel and Penryn :>
Asus and DFI are OK, Gigabyte and ECS are arse. |

Re: Possible New PC Specs
Well, I got all the stuff from newegg and I knew at the time I shouldnt have gotten an open box Motherboard but NOOOOOO!! I just had to save that few extra bucks!!
Asus P5K "Vanilla" MB with a Quad Core 2.4 CPU. 700W PS. 2 Gig Corsair XMS2 and a 8800GT. When it boots I get: CPU Over Volt Error.... Vcore running at 0.120 V Im thinking its a bad MB.. PS and CPU are new.... Anyone else ever see this? |
