I just found this goodness over at the Bioshock support site. Time to play it again!

I played the demo and it seemed moderately cool....a little too dark for my poor eyes though. How do you enjoy it? Good gameplay and such so far?

One of the best single player games I have ever played. You can turn the brightness up.

In game or artifically (monitor)? I only ask because I know trying to overdue it on the monitor will make everything whitish, I was wondering if the same happens with the in-game controls.

I tried it on my work machine, so I didn't get a great feel for it, but I liked the environment (in the lit areas) and the gameplay seemed novel.

You can do it either way. I generally use game settings since they each have their own brightness.

I think the environment might make for some good online action as well.

Monitor calibration and gamma

Ratneck Monitor calabration is important read through the site there is a couple of test bars to calabrate your gamma, brightness and contrast.

So, Direct2Drive apparently turned 5 years old and is having a big sale: Direct2Drive: 5 Year Anniversary - 50 games for $5 each!

Probably because of this thread and the fact that my friend has the xbox version (which I couldn't stand playing because it was on an xbox), I decided to pick this up for $5. Well worth it. I'm guessing it took me between 16 and 20 hours to get through it on medium. I'll probably be replaying it in the future to see if harvesting instead of rescuing the little sisters changes the ending.

I like the 'hacking' flow game, though at times there was so much stuff to hack it felt like I was doing more of that than anything else. It's also a little odd people quit shooting at you while you sit there and do it. On the next playthrough I'll probably hack less and explode stuff more.

I wasn't a fan at all of the U-INVENT stuff...though that was mostly ammo, and I didn't ever seem to need any. It seemed to just be justification for the way everything was searchable...though all the searching was more tedious than fun in my opinion.

Also a lot of the plasmid possibilities seemed to be a waste. For the most part, I found myself just using the electricity plasmid and my wrench, though I did use the machine gun with anti-personnel rounds a bit.

I liked the dropped recordings for the storyline reveals, that was a nice touch.

All in all, it's definitely worth a playthrough if you're looking for something to do, but I didn't think it was as fun as Half-Life, Half-Life2, or Half-Life2: Episode 2.
