Void War Ships

I would've posted this sooner, but I was stuck in Jury Duty. Blue's News is reporting that the independently-create space sim, Void War, has been released. Here's a clip from the press release:

Void War features 6 different ships, each with their own unique and special abilities. For instance you could take the Renoun with its high thrust and glossed handling with its “vampire” leech ray or the FireBolt with its easy handling and low top speed, armed with quad lasers and deadly missiles. Combat in Void War takes place in areas called “void points.” These void points are surrounded by an electric field, creating a sort of deep space arena. Flying into the electric field will not harm you, but the further you get outside the arena the stronger the force will be pulling you back in. Placed randomly throughout each arena are special items, such as missile packs, enhanced shields, instant-recharge, and repair bots. Learning to fight and grab pickups at the same time is challenging, but only through this can you become a true Void Runner.

You can learn more about the game at the official Void War website.

Yeah! I was reading about that last night. Downloaded the demo last night, but haven't messed with it yet.

Ok, tested it.

It's very fun, and very, very fast paced.

BUT. It's very, very, very easy to run out of energy, which powers shields, engines, and lasers. There is NO joystick button mapping. There is NO joystick throttle support.

It's kinda purty - not top-of-the-line, by any means, but it's decent. It's just DUMB, because the only way to move is by button-pressing a thruster, which moves you. If you run out of thruster energy, you have to wait for it to recharge - and that's the ONLY way you move. If you move too much, you run out of energy, and you can't move until you recharge - can't shoot, either.

They say they're going to add throttle support, but how would THAT help, if you can only move via using your thrusters, and that burns up in 5-10 seconds? I suggested they make two types of motion, because that REALLY isn't going to work with joysticks, at all. If they keep it way it is, I'm not buying it. If they change it, I'd seriously consider it. Perhaps my only beef with the game.
