What, No Cake?

No candles? No events? Not a peep nor a post? It slipped by as we slumbered in dreams of futility. It came and went like a ship in the night. Shame on us.

Happy Belated Birthday Jumpgate.

From NetDevils front page.
Finally, four years ago (September 25, to be exact), NetDevil launched Jumpgate, a massively multiplayer space combat and trading simulation. Since then, players have had the opportunity to own and pilot a spacecraft in a persistent universe while engaging in trade, mining, and combat. Happy Birthday Jumpgate! Let's celebrate with some pie! We currently offer a 10 day free trial to all new players - visit the Jumpgate Operating System SHell at http://www.jossh.com for more information.

I feel so dirty and ashamed.

Pretty much. Of course this was my first 'Jumpgate Birthday', so, how would i have known. It's not like most people make a daily habit of visiting the actual netdevil site... still, a happy birthday to Jumpgate, which is 21 years and 2 days younger than me!

Four years ago . . . sheesh, back then I was just a little bit old.

Actually I remember it vividly. We were all going through withdrawal in the weeks between the shutdown of beta/stress test and the commercial launch. I remember calling home every hour to see if my box had come. Then, on launch date, we waited and waited and waited. I think servers ended up going live in the wee hours of the morning (ET). It was an exciting time. I never would have guessed how poorly the game would be promoted/received . . . and never would have guessed I'd still be playing 4 years later.

Right around now, 4 years ago, was when my box showed up from Amazon.

I had already fooled around in the offline sim though when I had d/led the open beta (but never subscribed), so I was a l33t n00b and knew how to dock already. c1s, on the other hand...

They seriously hurt for awhile

c3s were pretty hard, too. Snails, by comparison, were easy. I fought my first snail in I3 and was amazed at how easy things were going. Tragically, a manta was in the sector as well, I don't think I ever saw it though. C6 > Appy.

*sigh* As soon as I win the million (or MAKE the million), I'll embrace Jumpgate again. I miss talking to you all over the radio. One of the funnest things I've ever done!
