What does this TrackIR do? can it aim and shoot and fly awesome without me doing shit but just like, if I see Algore, and I imagine me killing him, then my ship does rest of the work?

Re: TrackIR user please read!

It just changes the view of your HUD I believe. Instead of using the keyboard or joystick toggle.

It does just change the view inside the cockpit - but the effect is quite dramatic, and once you get used to it, you can't live without it.

I've not tried it in Jumpgate Classic yet as I'm travelling, but in Flight Sim, it's unbelievably good, and a necessity for serious combat games such as LockOn.

Check out the gameplay videos (especially the heli ones!) at TrackIR.com.

Unfortunately, it's not quite ideal for FSX (which is FSX's fault) as you can't modify the vertical viewpoint position - FSX continually resets it to the default when you look around, so you can't raise your seat position when landing etc for a better view - but there's ways round that by modifying the eyepoint location in the aircraft.cfg file - but I digress....

If anyone's madly interested, when I get back home next week I'll shoot a little video of me playing and looking around with the TrackIR so you can see what the fuss is about. That's if it works ok (noting the above) and the US billing provider can reactivate my Slopey account!

Oh - Striker - does it have 6DOF support, or is it just the 4?

We did the TrackIR support in TRI mainly to see what it would take to put it into Evolution, but there were enough people asking about it that we decided to release it into TRI when we did the Vista patch. Right now, the current implementation is strictly yaw and pitch. What we end up using in Evolution is still up in the air.

Re: TrackIR user please read!

Well, after watching both the LockOn heli and the GT legends demos... its pretty cool, I love it, though I find that $180 is a tad high at the moment (for me at least), but if I had money to throw away I would get one (if we get what is shown in these demos).

Being able to look down and see some cockpit displays or being able to try and get higher to see better 'downwards' is very nice, is like a dream come true.

"Yaw and pitch" but still gradual view of if you look a bit to the left you get automatically thrown into the left view? There's a lot of difference between gradually seing to the left than what I get now with the instant left view.

Re: TrackIR user please read!

It is basically the free-look mode when you move your head, it scrolls in the direction of movement. It is not simply switching between the different hat positions that is normally controlled by the joystick. It makes for unique experience when you are docking as you can keep your eyes on the station the whole time.
