Well... no luck last night either... in fact jumpgate won't launch now. :P
So.. im restoring the system back to fresh install state and i shall try some more. However its not looking good... i think there will be some need for netdevil network coding changes. |

The problem isn't the install or the sim, it's the actual playing, try making a 10-day

It's funny. I stopped playing games for a while, so for me, Vista was fine. When I started to play again...Vista would only run 30% or less of the games I installed. Microsoft's own Freelancer refused to run. This convinced me to remove Vista and go back to XP. Now everything runs swimmingly.

FYI I tried using running Jumpgate in Linux via wine, but it didnt work
It was funny cause the installer was able to create a shortcut on the desktop. Im still pending to try it with cedega instead of wine.BTW, I read somewhere that Vista doesnt use directsound anymore, and that only users that run x-fi cards might be able to play old games in vista. AC'97 (built'ins) and other sound blaster cards (older of course) may work in terms of providing sound in Vista, but won't originate sounds from those old games. Also, I read somewhere that there was a patch for sound blaster cards, something Alchemy, that would convert those old directsound games to the new sound system/software that Vista uses. ELP PS: Great skin Jump I LOVE IT. |

Well.. i have given up on trying to get this to work. I think the problem lies in Direct3D Retained Mode being dropped from Vista. Even placing and manually registering the directX files from my XP machine won't get this running. Other posibilitys is the NAT helper being removed... which could cause network errors when using NAT.. although i dont' think that is the case as i gave my machine a public IP and that didnt' seem to help. Plus the fact that you can join and chat kind of points away from that. But they couldhave used different network code for chat vs space.
I was going to suggest and try the wine thing... but since that has already been tried.... i got nothing left. I think jumpgate will have to fix this... or someone on the net will have to come up with a way to make a port or wrapper for the old DX functions that have been dropped. So... all in all... not a good thing here.... Because if they choose not to patch this... well... thats the end. No new people and as people convert to Vista because of needs( ie directX 10 games), away will drop the rest of the playerbase. ![]() |
