Re: Jumpgate and Vista
The problem is with DirectPlay the networking API we used in Jumpgate. We have replaced this entire API in our internal builds and the game runs again under Vista with no problem. I don't have an ETA of when this will patch out to external players though unfortunately.

Re: Jumpgate and Vista
Two things.
I bought jumpgate several years ago, not really paying attention and never knowing it was an MMO, and when I tried the trial, the CD Key was invalid so i could not try it. I messed around in the sim a couple times and I always wished i could try it. I attempted to try it about a year or two ago, and i never got it patched correcty, and i figured the game must surely be dead, or close to. I just recently bought a laptop ( with vista =/) and had no games and had the urge to play jumpgate. To my amazement there seemed to be activity! So got the client, patched it and played sim a bit, then activated my acct. I could log in, but as soon as the docking screen is displayed i get kicked out (Is that because I launch first time in?). I assume its vista and im going to install on my uncles lappy w/ xp and see what happens. Anyway, other thing... is jumpgate still alive enough for a noobie and a few friends to join? If not, im sure ill be in on evolution. Any advice? |

Re: Jumpgate and Vista
The net code for Jumpgate does not work with Vista. There has been mention (two posts above yours) of the new net code from Jumpgate Evolution being added to it as a temporary measure to get Vista users back in game. But that has not happened yet. Sounds like Demons have kept you from playing a really cool game.
I have heard that actually doing all the upgrades to Jumpgate on a non Vista machine and moving it to Vista helps but there is no validation to that rumor that I know of. |

Re: Jumpgate and Vista
As far as i know the only way MAYBE to get jumpgate to run on vista would be through a virtual/emulation of XP in vista. Microsofts own free Virtual PC 2007 does not support directX so that is a no go. VMware makes/is making a virtual software that will support SOME DirectX but as far as i know no one has tried it yet. One of these days i will get a bit of free time to test that, assuming i can get the softare, and will of course post how it turns out. Of course anyone else is free to try as well.
As for as the copying over from vista... all that does is get around some patching issues and the security features of vista. Still can only launch in offline sim and you still crash on launch online. |

Re: Jumpgate and Vista
Jaydamis the answer is an unequivical "YES". It is worth downloading and playing on XP, or WIN98SE or anything else. Jumpgate is simply the best game I've ever found, IF you like a skill based system. I love it even though I don't have the skills to be a combat pilot.
