Again, just like BF:V

I never said there wasn't any short term goals. What I said was "... what AH lacks is any goal beyond what every free online FPS has: momentary and inconsequential control of something", which you just confirmed.

This only affects the people that chose to take part in it. The results have no impact on those that decide to play only map warfare and whatnot. Again, this just shows that AH is not a persistent universe game. If the universe is not persistent, than nothing can truly be won or lost beyond personal stats.

Completely true. I have never said AH was a bad game. It is by far the best combat simulator I have ever seen. But while requiring months of practice and coordinated teamwork is certainly a challenge, it does not equal content.

There is no doubt that AH is a great game. But despite its incredible gameplay, it still lacks content by the definition we've all held JumpGate to.

Although admittedly, AH doesn't have the guiding hand of Themis behind it. So that's gotta count for something.

Personally, Im enjoying AH2. It relies on different things working together to accomplish a goal. Im really getting into driving GV's. My lone panzer can level a town while nme pilots are busy with the furball that my teammate's are giving them. all the while someone else is up above the clouds licking the edge of the atmosphere in b-17's dropping thousands of pounds of ordinance on the nme's hangers and stuff. then there's the brave soul coming in after i drop the town, the bombers take away the bases ability to fight, and the fighters take out the oposition, in the c-47 to drop paratroopers to complete the base takeover.

if i go shoot at the beacon in oct shore with nukes and /sq claim it, dose that make oct shore a quant sector? nope. it just pisses off OEC, gets me shot at and ran off.

Cool, glad to see you're liking the GV's. We need a variety of favored equipment in our squad, and so far you're the only one I've heard of that favor's GV's. BTW, when do you fly? I've only seen you online once so far.

Hmmmm.

If you haven't tried AH2 for a while, come back and give it a shot.

Given that it requires no credit card to try for 14 days, its a relatively low risk proposition.

Karash, Shug (I think), Elpirata and I are involved, though I haven't seen shug or Elp. We are flying with TexMurphy and the others (some of whom are ex-Jumpgate, but are flying under different names).

One thing that I can see is that even with say 6 people in the squad online, we can have an impact on the overall current situation even though there may be 200 or 300 people on our side fighting at the time.

The game is tough and what I would consider in some respects hardcore from a forgiveness/learning perspective. It also seems to manage that elusive balance between frustration and achievment. I am only a couple of weeks old in the game and I find that there are probably 15% of the pilots that are worse than I am in air to air combat. There are 15% that are damn near unbeatable...truly skilled, situationally aware and one with their craft pilots. The rest fall somewhere in the middle.

There are ALOT of different things to do and to learn to do well. I would consider myself an adequate goon pilot (flying an unarmed C-47 full of troops or supplies to a base we just captured or are in the process of capturing), a piss poor armored vehicle combatant, a barely adequate combat pilot. The strategies are complex, yet not overly so. I learn something pretty much every day in terms of base capture scenerios and I absolutely learn something every day in terms of just general flight.

The first day I could not land hardly any planes (even taking off without dragging a wing was tough). Now I can manage most basic aspects of my planes operations and engage in combat with some success.

I was commenting to Karash on how the game was addicting and yet utterly frustrating at times (frustrating in the aspect of taking off, flying into battle, never firing a shot and dying 3 times in a row). He replied that it was addicting from the perspective that you KNOW you can get better and in the end duke it out with the big boys in the sky (we will see).

Ya...I am babbling.

We were capturing a base the other day, Aubrey was out in front, Tex was somewhere and a couple of other guys were preparing the town by bombing and strafing. Someone asked if we had a goon enroute and someone asked "where is Mack when you need them". This hit me really hard as I realized the potential that this little group of ex-Jumpgate players would have if we had more of not only the skilled combat pilots from Jumpgate, but also the skilled and logistically adept "haulers" from Jumpgate. Logistics in this game play a rather significant role. Nothing is ever accomplished if you aren't hauling in supplies and troops with a rather demanding degree of timing. Too soon..the cargo plane will be shot down or the cargo ground vehicle will be destroyed..simple as that. Too late and the work done to prepare the base and town will be wasted and have to be done again to prepare it. Having people who understand combat and logistics would be a godsend.

Ok..enough I have work to do (which is why I suspect that this is so long winded...denial and avoidance).

There is no credit card required to try it for 14 days, it is a demanding game. Easy to moderate to learn..damn hard to master, and there are people that you may know flying the skies over there.

If you are bored and want to read up on OEC's exploits, stop by oec.oesm.org and check out our AH forums. Synergy also has an Aces High forum too with some really good tips.

If you are going to give the game a try, DO go to those forums so you will know how to communicate with us in game.

Take care,

Ikeprof

You mean like I did, 30 minutes ago?

(I haven't logged into the account yet, want to get everything downloaded first, to make the most of the 2wk trial... and the HTC pipe seems tiny as hell, I don't relish downloading the 100-whatever MB skin pack or the other stuff, judging from how long it takes to download the core 65MB package. )

Well, we don't get anything unless you sign-up. It's supposed to remember you when you click and know if you sign up within 30 days. This will be a good test. Thanks for clicking.

"sign up" as in start a paying account? I've registered an account there, but according to the signup page the 2 week free trial timer starts when you actually log into your account for the first time, as I understood it (possibly misunderstood, too).

Anyway, still downloading.
