Well, I gave it a shot. To me, the graphics were pretty bad. It wasn't that they were horrible or anything, just bland. As I was in an airplane most of the time, there wasn't very many graphics to see. I don't recall seeing any clouds at all the whole time I played.
When I logged in an there weren't any people I knew (aub, lovemonk, etc) playing, I didn't have much fun at all. It seemed difficult to me to coordinate with the rest of your country. The times I played there was 1 mission set up. I tried setting one up myself, but it seems the status quo is to fly without a mission. I think that's a shame. The mission system could have been a way to coordinate with people you don't know. It was pretty difficult to learn to use as well. It seems everything (even basic communications) is a pain to figure out unless you RTFM. This is a flaw I see in Jumpgate as well, that they rely on other players to teach new players how to play. I personally prefer the warcraft approach...a single player campaign that is not only fun, but teaches you what the &*(^ you're doing. All in all, I decided not to subscribe because I only had fun when people I knew were playing, and $14.95/mo is a bit much when I have to depend on other peoples playing schedules to have fun. |

My 14 days were up this past Monday, and I didn't subscribe. I don't see how this game justifies $15 a month, imo. It's fun, the physics are good, the graphics are pretty good (they don't overload the computer with ultimately unnecessary fluff), and the multiplayer aspects are nice as well. But to me, I don't see this as much more of a stretch beyond Battlefield:Vietnam in terms of what the multiplayer component adds to the game. It's more complex, certainly. But in the end it's still a static world. And to me that doesn't warrant a monthly fee, let alone one so high.
The only thing I can see in this game that justifies a monthly fee is that there simply is no other flight sim that has this kind of multiplayer gameplay. But $15 is about $10 too much for what you get. |

I agree that the graphics are not all that great, but then graphics have never been my way of evaluating a game. It is the area of light models and ballitsicks that this game is in it's glory. You Cannot get inot a plane in this game and just go fly. You really need to learn what you are doing. Yes the "world" is static. I would attribute that to the goal of wanting to be a flight sim not a rpg/sim. I understand but do not know for sure that the creators are trying to impliment a TOD. tour of duty I assume that means some kind of RPG aspect. though I could very well be mistaken. I enjoy the game now. Will it keep my attention ove rthe long haul I could not say. I may get sick of it in a few months and maybe not.

Jumpgate I loved, it is something I will always be very very glad I took the plunge and tried. I have met some great folks there. Thanks to Griz for talking to a newb. You all know how I tried to play nice with everyone. I am sad it is going the way of the dodo, but that was written when Themis and Moll took over.
I have moved on and am happy to be flying with my buds again. If ever there is another "jumpgate" I will play. But it must have a viable economy and not give in to the carebear mentality, of course quake in space 24/7 is bad also. I wish I could buy out Netdevil and run it myself. Heh I spoke to EVo and Liet about that one time. I will and do miss my time in jumpgate. I miss all the folks in jumpgate. I do not miss the whining from jumpgate. I am having a ball playing aceshigh 2 it is 24/7 mayhem I'll probably get bored in a while but we will see. The thing is the learning curve is huge so there is always something for me to work on. |

Imho this is currently THE best game out there.
Indeed its a big furball with territorial conequest but the flight sim aspects of the game are so great, fantastic physics. The learning curve is high, can be a problem during trial, but once you start riding it you keep learning alot for months, years. Im in my 7th or 8th month and Im still learning alot. Just swiching aircraft and learning to master it is a 2 month project. I played Weekend of War recently and it showed me how lacking and shallow Jumpgate PvP is. Now Im not talking about the fact that it lacks any reason to fight Im talking about the combat between ships, its extreamly simple compared to AH. QK says its AH has "nothing extra", I really dont agree. There are very few games where different types of pilots (players) work so closely together and need each other so much. Fighter pilots, Attack pilots, Bomber pilots, Cargo pilots and GV drivers all need each other and work together. My primary interest is dogfighting and flying fighters so I focus around that alot when I speak about AH but its got soo much more for so many other type of players. Look at Wolf (aka Flash_aaaaah from Jumpgate) he is a hardcore buff pilot. He flies hour long sorties dropping eggs on stuff. He gets a huge kick out of that. Its totally different gameplay from what I do. Imho AH is THE hardcore joystick required multiplayer game out there. Tex |
