Re: The Dreaded XBOX 360 Red Ring of Death.

I have a gen 1 360 that I got on launch day. First day I had it, I turned it on and had it on for probably 6-8 hours playing the new Madden & Tiger Woods. I reached into the spot where I had it (which was the spot in my entertainment center where the old Xbox was) and it was so hot it almost burned me. So I moved it to a different spot, a more open spot.

We use as our DVD player exclusively, we have the HDDVD drive attached to it. Sometimes its on for half the day with our kids watching movies. No problems since that initial day.

Whenever I hear about people who did have a problem, I usually ask them about where it was, people having it sitting on the carpeted floor, in a tiny alcove of an entertainment center etc... Microsoft did not do a good job of designing the unit, so you can't treat it like a console and you certainly cant treat it like a piece of AV equipment. You have to treat it like a high end computer (even though its not) you have to pamper it, and you have to watch the things temperatures. If you do that, it should work...

As a side note, when you say the new Star Wars lego game, do you mean the Complete Saga or the second one that you play the original trilogy? We have the second one on the 360 and my son has been asking for the new one. Id rather avoid it if there is something wrong with it...

No, I don't stack equipment. It was all by itself. 33% of all owners can't be wrong. Which is why they are eating it. It's a mute point now. Microsoft has basically admitted the problem.

I'm thinking of getting one of those external fan units just to make sure.

It was the newest Lego one out. Whatever that is I don't play it. We never had a problem before that either.
