Add-on for JOSSH or it's replacement
I know all the BBS/forums have the feature of "you last visited: Date/Time". I wish there was something similar for the pilot page. It could be worded as "Pilot last active Date/Time" or "Most recent flight Date/Time". I just think this would be a handy feature for... oh a lot of things...
It would be good in Jumpgate Classic right now. It would be equally good for Jumpgate Evolution when it comes out. |

This request has been rejected in the past for reasons passing understanding. I hope it get a fresh hearing this time.

Re: Add-on for JOSSH or it's replacement
Sorry but being a military pilot I dont like this idea. I prefer to be incognito. It seems to me to just be a way to check on other pilots and personaly I think Jossh already gives away to much infomation.

I don't disagree that there may be privacy concerns but honestly, what does anyone have to lose by someone knowing when they were last active? I think it could also be used as a self check to ensure no-one has commandeered your account. There are arguments for and against but i think the concerns are minimal. I'd would like to hear from those who do have concerns tho. Perhaps there are things i am not aware of.

Re: Add-on for JOSSH or it's replacement
What privacy issues do you refer to? JOSSH already tells if you are logged in or not and if you are in flight or docked. So how does my suggestion reduce your privacy?
I personally think it's a handy way to see if Pilot X has launched in the last day, week or month. A good many folks spend a lot of time on the forums and very little in the cockpit. Having a "Most Recent Flight" Date/Time would simply make it easier to sort out active pilots from inactive pilots. Also handy in the "pilot X" did such and such on "date/time". A simple look at the MRF info would show whether the pilot was even on or not at that point in time. An absolute check in someone using your account as well. On another thread on the Jumpgate Classic forums, it was mentioned that the proposal was canceled previously due to the potential for abuse, but how it could be abused was not stated. |

Re: Add-on for JOSSH or it's replacement
Because someone in the past created a program to analyze pilot data to determine the possible identity of second accounts. That person was banned. Posting the log off info would make this exploit much easier to accomplish. So no, I am not for this.

Re: Add-on for JOSSH or it's replacement
It truly amazes me what some people will waste time on. Finding out second accounts is usually just a matter of time anyway - especially in a community this small. One person finds out then another then another and pretty soon, anyone still active knows who everyone is and their seconds/thirds/5ths...
In a larger community it may be more of a concern tho. I have never data-mined a web page so I don't know how difficult it would be to lock that information. If its a matter of a data dump that is given to external parties, then the information could simply be omitted from the transmission or the dataset locked in the DB in the case of queries. I doubt someone would manually look at every pilots last logon in a community of 10,000 but then again, I may be surprised. Someone that anal may come along and actually do that. |
