The problem lies when a pilot or group of pilots simply want to launch and fight with little thought to preparation and strategy. Usually the same group that want fully equipped stations and no penalties for killing anyone. Missions like this will help guide the sheep I guess, while not removing or particualry hindering free flowing RP. Jumpgate Evolution should appeal to as many people as possible. If this appeals to a group without hindering other groups I would be happy to embrace it. While the sheep are flying to their destination, I'll have a trap lying in wait for my fun ![]() Regards Al |

Al, not everyone is in a squad with politics, and KOS lists, and enemy squads.
Some people like being by themselves, and any system that helps bring those people together to enjoy the little amount of game time they have is a good thing in my book. |

I like the idea. The more mission types and objectives the better. One thing that makes WoW so great is the sheer number of quests in the game. each of these quests is an adventureous story if you care to read about why your doing what the quest requires you to do. There are so many quests, chances are is you won't be able to do them all. This gives WoW allot of added replay value. You can play the same character class again and have a totaly different experience.

Re: An alternative to grinding - which encourages community
Replay value is for single player games. Every day in an MMO should be a totally different experience because the universe is alive and changing. I don't see much difference between daily missions and faction missions that are remarkably easy to finish. I'd still prefer player created missions so that you could try to figure out what other players (particularly your enemies) were up to based on what missions were floating around.

Re: An alternative to grinding - which encourages community
Think under the current MT system, but with a twist.
I take a Procurement mission from Oct Core to Hype to get a load of Dreams. This triggers combat missions (depending on war status) in Sol and/or Quant space to intercept me. Sol and/or Quant space get crawlers to "Check at Station for Vital Combat Missions". Now IF there are any takers on the Sol or Quant MT combat intercept mission, then in Octavian space there's another "Check at Station for Vital Combat Missions" for an COMBAT ESCORT mission. The number of takers for the Sol/Quant Intercept mission will determine the number of Octavian Combat Escort Missions offered. IF there are takers on the Sol/Quant intercept, but none for the Oct combat escort mission, then a message goes out on the Octavian frequency "MT hauler Wild_Bill in immediate danger from attack by Jump (Sol) and GrimGriz (Quant). F4 Wild_Bill for current location". This does a whole bunch of things. #1 it generates conflict and combat missions with purpose. #2 it also allows a certain social element into the game because some folks might want me to take an annoying pod ride and fail my mission (although with MT insurance, not too painfully expensive). #3 it also lets the Octavian combat pilots know who the attackers are. Perhaps there is someone with a grudge against one of these pilots. Now the Oct combat pilot may not care much for me, but he'd really like to get GG in his sights. What it would NOT do is generate a counter-escort mission, that is to let the attackers know help is on the way for the hauler. Then again, it might be better to strike the personal element in the missions/messages like they had to do with the bounty missions. Cool with me either way. If Piracy is established as a faction, with their own F1 channel, then a hauler taking a lucrative hauling mission could generate an "alert" message to any pirates logged on for a mission to pirate the hauler. I'm not really in favor of this one, but it does make a sort of sense IF piracy is established as a faction and there ARE missions for Pirates. Alternately, those messages would only go out for an AI hauler, not PC haulers. (yeah Tritian, I know you are only interested in pirating REAL pilots, but other pirates may not be so choosy when it comes to making loot/credits.) |

Love it Bill.
It uses the mission system for REAL missions instead of take ABC to point B. It uses the built in systems to bring people together, both as escorts and attackers. It even includes pirates, which makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside ![]() |

Re: An alternative to grinding - which encourages community
grind is nessicary in most mmos like this one.
at least it's not time based like the rest of the mmos where in twitch based mmos, theres a skilled based grinding and depending on how good u can aim at those big flux, u can get up to a descent lvl real fast. and did i just head that the Jumpgate Evolution devs actually adoring WoW style of a progressin system? Quote:
unless if WoW in space is a reality, the new game will be critisized for being just another cookie cutter WoW clone but with a differences of having twitch based controls and with a space themed environment. |
