That way, if a pirate is heading for a hauler, maybe the hauler can fly around the nebula for awhile. If the pirate pursues, they might get banged around a bit more by the nebula then the hauler/require a higher speed to keep their heading somewhat stable (thus wasting AB).

Also the hauler could use his extra mass to fly closer along the perimeter of those whirlpool slingshots and not get sucked in as easily as a fighter would. The hauler would still require skill to navigate himself, just not as much as the fighter who's in a lighter craft and has to overcompensate more w/ his lateral thrusters/AB.
Trit, you got it backwards, big trucks are MORE affected by high winds. On a really windy day, what do you see more of on the side of the road flipped over, a small car or a huge truck?

As far as the grav wells, the more the mass, the more the grav, so again, backwards

Screw physics and logic, I like Tritian's way better. Yes, you are absolutely right Net, to a point. I ride a Yamaha 1100 Special with a flatbed sidecar. Tons of frontal resistance. Side winds don't much bother me. Head wind or tail wind will move me all over the road for some reason. My 3/4 ton raised roof van has no problem with head/tail winds, but cross winds will move it all over the road. Passing or being passed by an 18-wheeler on the bike can be a scary experience. Van doesn't hardly notice it.

Tritian's proposal, although totally against RL and physics makes much better RP sense and gives a slight tatical advantage to the larger ship. Think of how the BIG ships did in WWII (such as battleships or carriers) as opposed to the little ships (destroyers) during heavy weather. Big ships don't have too much trouble with storms up to hurricanes, but smaller ships have a REALLY rough time (I'm told, never been on either one during a storm or calm).

oops, i guess you're right, net. my bad.

but still, i think WB's naval ship scenario might be a better way of putting it.

You can't just think of size and wind. It's all about mass. It takes a greater force to move an object of greater mass. Which is why the big ships to well in storms. So while a large low mass object may be moved more by wind, a large massive object will not.
