Not pilot flyable but both Xwing and Freespace had cap ships. The feeling of flying around cap ships (in Freespace2) while they were discharging their main batteries on each other and you being in the middle was a blast and chaos of course, but a blast.
Even more in Freespace because you were able to target and destroy cap ship subsystems.. like its ability to move, shield, or destroy its turrets, all this while being fired from these and the enemy fighters that were defending it. Another game I just remembered... is not space but had big ships, Crimsom Skies. The big zeps launched hoardes of fighters to defend them although the zeps also had their own sets of turrets. The multiplayer had an option for zep vs zep but never used it so I dont know what it did. All I know is that destroying enemy zeps was very cool and very hard to do, you would have this exhilarating emotion when destroying one ![]() This reminds me of something... which I will put in another thread. Has been suggested by me before and later by others, but hasnt been mentioned for Jumpgate Evolution yet. ELP |

Don't be so sure there will not be cap ships at launch. There are certainly not cap ships now, but between now and launch anything is possible.
![]() I can think of lots of great experiences with cap ships in games like Wing Commander, X-Wing and Freelancer (it should be noted that I was not flying them in any of these games). Not to mention lots of cool movie scenes with cap ships as well. |

Scorch, since you have allowed the camel to stick his nose into the tent... what would YOUR definition of a cap ship be? Can you share ANYTHING with us regarding the mere possibility of cap ships in Jumpgate Evolution and how they MIGHT be implemented? Pretty please with sugar on it?

What we are doing is taking everything we think are the most fun experiences from previous space games and space movies and working on how (and if) we could include that experience into Jumpgate. Obviously fighting against, protecting and just watching big ships duke it out in a battle you are taking a part in can be an incredible experience.
