Avatars?

If we do go with cap ships or ships that can be manned by more than one pilot are we going to have avatars? Be kinda cool to leave your ship and go to the station bar for a beer with your mates. Be cool to hear klaxons going off inside the station due to enemies gating into the station sector too....."All combat pilots man your ships....all combat pilots man your ships!"

I know adding avatars would be like developing a completely new game all by itself but hey...one can dream....

Re: Avatars?

I see in some of the screen shots that stations have giant docking bays, which is better than the old iris holes in the stations. It would be cool if when you berthed your ship you saw real NPC avatars coming to service your ship and you could get out and move in first person to a mission computer or if there is quests, some NPC avatar that gave you your orders.

I realize that would have no actual game impact, but it would rock mightily.

LOL plus if there were indeed a gank fleet waiting outside, climb out of the ship, grab a beer and watch them sit there..heck, even raise a toast!

Re: Avatars?

Be careful about what we wish for.

Same thing happened with AA. ND shoehorned in Avatars, it felt undone, crappy, pointless, and generally out of place.

I don't see why it's needed. It's far more simple to just have everything you can do in a station at your fingertips rather than running some dude around to go to everything individually.

Besides, something like this requires a huge amount of time resources. I say that every bit of time there is should go toward enhancing the space game.

Adding a new game?? ND have enough games lying around they could bung onto Jumpgate. Haw about docking in station, getting a car out of storage and driving around the station blasting all your enemies? Or warmonger style walking around the station blasting the walls down and sniping everyone on sight.

Maybe after the destruction was done you could re-build the interior of the station using small plastic bricks?

Re: Avatars?

Avatars would be a relay, really good addition for the game.

I cant stress enough how much they add to games and immersion... And it would be something that REALLY sets jump gate evolution apart from other space games.

Re: Avatars?

Heck no! But you should be able to install various parts on your ship to distinguish it from others, and customization "loot" would add some retention value.
