I don't know how many of you are old enough to remember the original Battlestar Gallactica show and how the Vipers docked, but they actually had a hanger that you flew into. Same thing with the Deathstar in Star Wars and the shuttle bays in Star Trek.

I know it's probably too late for this idea to be implemented in the stations now, but please, please, please could there be some strange station that we had to dock at like that? It would be SO cool to try and park a freighter in a hanger filled with other ships, letting it settle slowly to the floor. It would also be cool as hell to come screaming into the station with half a dozen bad guys on your arse and do a speed dock right in front of everyone, hoping to whatever deity you pray to that you don't clip that Halcyon parked right by the front door on the way in!!!

It would also make for an incredibly cool launching as well. Lift the freighter off the floor, maneuver it out of harm's way, then try not to take half the station with you as you leave. Or see if you can get your LF to scream out of there on full AB inverted directly from the parking spot......

I know in one of the screenshots (#5 of the 7 on the Jumpgate Evolution site) it looks like there already is a hanger system in place, this is what got me thinking about all this......

I know, make it so that you have the traditional docking system as well as the hanger. Traditional would incur the taxes and fees, the manual hanger be subsidized. That way, if you didn't want the danger or time sink of manual docking, you could pay your dues for it, but if you wanted the risk and had the time........

All depends on whether we can collide with each other. If we CAN then my response is HELL NO! If it's like we are now, yeah I think it would be worth a try. I don't like to think of the damage a freighter could cause docking in a full hanger! Then again, think of a suicidal freighter docking into a hanger full of foreigners... better yet, let's NOT THINK OF IT.

hmm, it's a good idea to have two seperate hangers, one for manual docking and one that would incur fees for auto docking. However, since we dont have lateral thrusters or any other means of fine-steering, I'd have to say 'No' to the entire idea, as it'd be a nightmare to manually dock in a hanger full of ships. =)

I'd rather manual dock. It's sooo easy to do. You don't even need lateral thrusters if they designed it right.

Mickey, did you know they remade Battlestar Galactica several years ago and there's been a mini-series as well as three seasons of TV episodes with another season left and a movie in production as well?

Yup, I did. But I haven't watched much of any of them (only have time for two shows, and those are the two Stargate ones). Which is why I referenced the original one. I don't know the content of the new SciFi channel one, so I didn't know if they had the same landing bays or not.
