Im just thinking of WoW where on 1 side certain things are dirt cheap and on the other you pay through the nose for those same items (I actually found it cheaper to buy several items for my Pally on the alliance and use a friends account to auction them over to him at BB)

Pyrofred, since I don't play WoW, can you explain at greater length what you are talking to? Or does everyone understand the references?

Re: Can POS make everyone happy?

This is what I get for visiting 3 different forums at the same time

in WoW there are 2 Factions Alliance and Horde with their own auction houses. Theres also a non-factional auction house which either side can use.

Apparently on my server the Horde side has more cash to spend(for one reason or another) which drove up the prices on the equipment I was trying to buy
basically what I ended up doing for one of my characters was buying his equipment on one side and then using a friends account put that equip up on the neutral auction hall real cheap and bought it real fast with the character i was trying to equip.

I think i already know the answer to my question, but I guess we will work with the results when we get there.

I'd say that's something to be worked out in beta.

I'd say that's capitalism.

Re: Can POS make everyone happy?

Okay, thanks Pyrophred. I understand it now. Places where stuff is both cheap and abundant with other places where it's more scarce and expensive. Basic capitalism as Chemdog said. I thorougly approve! Just wish we had that in Jumpgate Classic/Jumpgate Evolution! It would almost make an economy

Market Modules
I suggest market modules be removed and that Auction Houses be created at each factional core station. If you arty-hunt or produce equipment, you'll get more customers that way, and everyone has a reason to go to the core stations.

Factory Modules
Factional stations should produce only commodities, and not equipment (or very very limited variety of equipment). Establishing good enough reputation (PR) with various factions/corporations should allow you to buy a specifically tuned factory module (i.e. sucking up and running missions for venurian prospecting would allow you to buy a POS factory module that creates size 6 mining lasers). Like refuel etc, you can assign a fee for using your module. They would work mostly like CPs, except they could have diverse (non-wasteful) commod requirments...i.e. 2 cesium, 3 chemicals, and 1 crate of gas containers would instantly make 8 flashfires. They would appear in your hold, not for sale at the station, like refining ore now.

Ore Silo
Ore silo's on the other hand, would be a place to refine and store ore for sale. They'd also communicate with your factions mission computer (if the player turns the option on), so people trying to make stuff would easily be able to know that Grizwald's Gallows is the best place to get Silicon at a fair price, and how much was there.

Storage modules
Storage modules would come in 2 flavors, personal and squad. The personal ones would work like the ones we have now. The squad ones would only work on squad-owned stations (expensive, 1 per squad, high maintenance), but would allow the squad leader to assign access to the module based on squad rank. i.e. if you have 4 ranks, you can give 3 access to the squad storage, and 1 for new members/members you don't trust.

Ship Hangars
Mostly, I think this functionality should be moved to faction stations. However, I wouldn't mind a squad hangar so long as you actually had to stock it with hulls.

There ya go, pick it apart, and be glad it's not about freighter and miner turrets.
These are some amazingly well thought out suggestions and I'm one of the "Anti POS" guys. I'm pretty sure POS will be in the game but GG's suggestions take some of the sting out of them. The "Market Module" idea is very good.

GG I've always pictured you thrashing around your apartment in a drunken stupor with no furniture on a carpet of decaying fast food wrapers and empty beer cans.....I may have to re-evaluate that perception.

Yeah! GrimGriz is thrashing around in his apartment in a drunken stupor with no furniture on a carpet stained with decaying condom wrappers and the fresh stench of hookers and beer.

Get your perceptions straight Xero! (and he's got a computer too... duh.)

Re: Can POS make everyone happy?

The more I think about POSes and such, the less I want to go back to faction stations as the source for fighting gear, if such gear remains as limited as it has been in later day US Jumpgate or pre-end of days EU.

Re: Can POS make everyone happy?

You can't judge based on Faction station inventories in US/EP2. The reason there is no inventories is that most players home out of their POSes and no one has incentive to stock the faction stations.
